I have wanted to add this model to my collection for years. There's just something about them as an automatic pistol with a unique design and history. Thanks for the info!

I have owned 3 1907 Savages, including one that was from the French contract with the lanyard ring. I really like them!

That is a very interesting Savage ad, thanks for posting it.

Cool ad posts. I'd seen the one with Bat Masterson (after he had gone into a journalism career) but not the one with W.F. Cody.

I may have one of those stashed away somewhere. First pistol with a detachable double-stack magazine as I recall.

My main complaint about the Savage is the exertion required to rack the slide. The recoil spring is stout. Once had four different variations, down to one today. For those not familiar with it, the Savage is technically not a straight blowback design. But it may as well be.

My favorite 32 pocket pistol.
Wish that they would reintroduce it with a few minor upgrades.
But, retain the original overall design and appearance.

I’ve owned several Savage 07s and dozens of other 32 and 380 pistols.
This was in 60s,70s and 80s. I never did much with them other than to shoot for “ effect”, function test before they hit trade pile. I never had any use for gut buster type guns. I wish I had kept a bucket of them to sell at today’s prices. During above time frame many such pistols were traded in on revolvers or something of more use. Sometime in mid 80s the market was shifting to collector status for the early auto pistols.

Currently have two of the 1907 model in 32ACP and a 1917 model in 380. Great guns, love shooting them! An interesting design, basically a delayed blowback system since the barrel only rotates a small amount before the slide is free to move back. Savage was the main domestic competition with Colt for pocket autos and they made quite a few of them.

I have a 1907 in .32 ACP in shooter grade condition, not great. I get it out once in a while for a bit of plinking. Not a carry gun for SD in my opinion regardless of the "endorsement".

Yes, agree awlslate. Found the safety position hard to manipulate with one hand. Safety went on/off mechanically very nice tho. Also, the mag release. You would need a mutual time out with the bad guy to change. Lol

Love my 1907! When I bought in 2020, it was at the height of the summer panic buying where everyone and their mother (literally) was buying their first handgun. The wait time to check out was 3-4 hours, with everyone holding their new Shields and a 642 for their arthritic mother to never shoot, but about 10 minutes in an announcement came over the line asking if anyone had a CCW permit. Out of the 100-200 people waiting in line, I and one other customer had ours, everyone else first time buyers.

Anyways, story time over, I ended up rebluing the pistol in a DIY caustic bluing bath and remaking some of the trigger assembly. Pretty happy with how it turned out,

Neat little guns! I have a 1907 in 32 acp. 10 round double stack magazine, not a single screw in the gun, and only coil springs. very unique and fun to shoot. Love the ads! There is an interesting book, "Savage Pistols," by Bailey Brower Jr, about these pistols.
