I know it's corny. I know it's sappy. I know it looks like she has wooly caterpillars on her eyelids. But I still like it.

I'm seeing him in Louisville Sunday night - he does put on a good show.

I'll admit to having a huge crush on Lani Hall back in the '60's when she was one of the lead singers of Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66. I didn't know she and Alpert were still performing.

I remember the album cover on "Whipped Cream and Other Delights." It inflamed my young mind.

As it did mine. Interesting trivia: in the movie The Boondock Saints, Rocco comes home in a hurry and starts packing his stuff to run after killing some mob guys. The first thing he grabs is this album.

Go out and see the old time performers when you can. I've seen Marty Stuart, Herman's Hermits and the Beach Boys so far this year, and have tickets to see the Beach Boys again and the Tokens (The Lion Sleeps Tonight). I've always regretted not being able to see Elvis, Marty Robbins, Roy Orbison, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis in concert.

Herb Alpert was the producer of the numerous Sergio Mendes albums. He was (and apparently still is) married to Lani Hall, one of the lead vocalists for Sergio Mendes, and I think the best. She had a great voice. I have digitized all of the Sergio Mendes songs onto a thumb drive and use them as one of my mainstays for driving music. Been listening to them going on 30 years. I never get tired of them. First on cassettes, then DVDs, then a USB thumb drive.

Marty Stuart is a favorite of ours. Seen him many times.
Under appreciated IMO.

dad used to play him a lot on the combo radio and turntable console entertainment center back in the '70s. Wish I had that old console back. I would 'restomod' it with all new components and set it under the TV in my bedroom. It would be about 10 feet away from where it was when Dad had the room.

My parents played him on an Emerson Hi-Fi, turntable/AM-FM.
The first album I bought was Black Sabbath's Paranoid.
I played the album once and while taking it off the turntable the wooden lid of the Emerson slammed down and broke my album in two.
I was so mad I picked the halves up and repeatedly broke them into tiny little pieces.

That was your guardian angel trying to save you from that devil music!

Likewise ;) In fact yesterday my gf and I were in one of our favorite antique stores, which has a huge selection of LPs of every description and that LP was there. I didn't get a pic of it, but they have this interesting divider:
