Lived in four countries and a dozen states...and chose Upstate SC as our permanent home. Not too hot in the Summer nor too cold in the Winter. Great neighbors and just plain good folks. We love it here.

I enjoy these threads because it gives us all a chance to stand up for home. One of my summer activities is to be a substitute liar (museum guide) and I meet many people from the whole country. The ones I like are open to the new and different places. I will not bad mouth the south because I have always found it is no trouble to strike up a conversation and find out a bit about where you are.
Coldshooter...no badmouthing here...lived in Milford, DE a while, Jacksonville, FL for 12 years. Traveled thru 46 states and 5 or 6 foreign countries...good folks everywhere and JAX is a beautiful place, just wasn't home..
No they wouldn't say anything to you, they don't have the time to stop and talk.
I've been in Texas in the summer and New England during the winter. Actually, a lifetime (so far) of winters in New England.
I'll take the 110 degree summer, thank you. At least I won't have to put on seven layers of clothes and go out to clear a foot of sunshine from my driveway.
I'll just have to find a shady spot, pour a glass of single malt, light up a cigar, and watch the Weather Channel.

Sometimes, up here in the hills, just the opposite is true! You start talking and can't get away from 'em!
Of course an "outsider" may not understand the local people anyhow!

We've got a "Cabin" and a few acres in the Laurel Highlands..... just north of the Maryland boarder... on the Eastern Continental Divide.......while generally only 5 to maybe 10 degrees cooler in the summer..... always a nice breeze.
A couple or three heavy snows during the winter... Jan-early March....but because we have winter every year..... unlike areas of the south... we are prepared for it........ and unlike further north....... snow comes and then it goes in a few days.......haven't had good cross country skiing here since the early 80s..........some years the Ski resorts do well... if the temp doesn't spike with the next High Pressure system..... and some years they go bankrupt......................
It is a bit long to the Outer Banks..... AKA "The W. Pa./Burgh's Riviera"...... about 8-9 hours........
Thought yin's went to Pymatuning....
Was big in the 60s but I'm almost certain,,,,, they closed Conneaut Lake Park.......Kennywood of the North.

I'm the opposite. I don't mind the 20 degree January days because I have a good looking girlfriend to warm me up
...then again, the warmer it is, the less she wears too
Here in SC if you can wait 3 days the weather will change.
