Been lurking for an older standard weight model 36, 60 or centenial 9442/642) copy j frame and had some questions .

1) can you guys tell me what the differences are between the 36 & 60?

2) what do I need to look for when I look at one to know it is a good buy?

3) Also what to look for to make sure it still has some good life left and has not been abused?

4) What is an average price for them now days?

I did search but only found some of the answers to my questions... Thanks in advanced

At any given time during their production, the model 36 and 60 were carbon and stainless steel. At different times there might be a model 36 variant that was not made in a model 60 (3" heavy barrel, RB).

Figure $400 - 500 or so for a nice clean example of either, with model 60s in general bringing a little more. As far as examining a used gun, there are several good YouTube videos for that...describing that would take a thousand words when a picture will do :).

Good luck in your search.

Difference is the finish. 36 is blued although there were some with other finishes.

These guns are rarely shot out. Most people carry them more than shoot them so the chances of finding one completely shot out are very very small

Purely personal preference...

For edc, the finish on the stainless Model 60 is more forgiving than the blued Model 36.
