Schwiebert Combat Grips?

All those towns are in my neck of the woods. Cambria is a short drive up the coast from Los Osos. The Hogue I know was in Atascadero until fairly recently which is also not far, just north and inland in San Luis Obispo county. I never knew that Hogue had any dealings in Cambria which is a quiet coastal town with no large commercial operations, much like Los Osos. Is bet there is a connection between the OPs grips and Hogue.
Im in Templeton. I think Cambria is where his house originally was. I know they made shop in Morro Bay as well as Paso Robles after Atascadero. Sadly, the store front in Paso is still there but it is just a shell with no real association to Guy any longer. But, you can drop in and pick up anything from the current catalog.

SG-688 and I gained a lot of information from Lou Schwiebert along with his last remaining grips. We will be adding some information about Lou and his grips and his grip making within the OP's thread here.

Lou was a police officer in California and became friends with Guy Hogue. He learned the trade from Guy and even worked for him performing various stages of grip production. He also made his own grips, using both wood and hardware sourced from Guy. He didn't advertise his grips and sold them to friends and fellow police officers. Some of Lou's grips were marked with an inked stamp as did Guy at the time period. But not all of his grips were marked and as many of his grips were very similar to Hogues, I am sure there are grips out there that have been and will be misidentified as the work of Guy Hogue. Like his mentor, Lou also made grips with the Hogue signature inboard islands to prevent over-tightening and cracking of the grip panels. As you can see from the Schwiebert example below, they likely would have been previously identified as Guy Hogue's work. So check your custom grips, you may have some Schwiebert examples!
