Scientists to Study Bigfoot DNA

I had lunch with Col. Rex Applegate once and we discussed blade length, in terms of combat knives. Rex had extensive feedback from OSS agents and others whom he had trained during WW II and they felt a six-inch blade was adequate for humans, as most vital organs lie within its reach.
Yeah, but that was back when the average height for American men was 5'8", and was long before the current day "obesity epidemic." Ten inches for a combat knife is about the minimum now. :)

If there ever was a post that you can, take it for what it's worth, this is one of them.

I have 2 very close personal friends who are full blood, Ottawa "Indians," actually both,
one in 1976 & the other in 1978 asked me to "cut blood" with them, something I
thought only happened in the movies. After we became "Brothers" this
pale face was in and was treated like one of their own by their real Families....

Both of these friends were born & raised in northern Michigan so came from
an enviroment where their Band's history was known, including many of
their Legends, which brings me to the OP's topic.

One night, many years ago, I was with one of these friend's at one of
his relatives where a group of his Family were partying. We were all feeling
pretty good, joking & laughing, just having a good time......;)

At one point someone mentioned something that
I had never heard of before, they said "Bear-Walk."

When those two words were mentioned everybody got real quiet and when
I looked around to see what was going on I noticed everybody looking
"kinda funny." Even being young & dumb I knew enough to keep my mouth
shut, at least right then & there. Over the course of a few minutes
the party got back to normal, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

When my friend & I left I asked, "What's the deal with this Bear-Walk thing?"

He said, you know it as Bigfoot and we believe that they do
exist, but not in the sense that most would understand.....

He went on to say that they believe, Bear-Walk, is the spirit of a Medicine Man
who can come back from the dead and has chosen a Bear-like form, basically
a Bear that walks like a man, hence the term "Bear-Walk."

He added that the reason no body has ever been found is that, while the Medicine Man
does take on an earthly body, he is after all, still a spirit so the body is only temporary.

Whether I believe this or not is neither here nor there, I know
for a fact that many of the Ottawa's that I have met surely do.

Please keep in mind that the above isn't something from the "official" folk-lore
of that Tribes particular Band. It was one "brother" trying to explain to
another "brother" why a certain something happened at a party one night.

I think this is valid Indian folklore, of that tribe, as the Navaho believe in "skinwalker" witches. But I do not believe that it is actually the reason for seeing Bigfoot, and many have been sighted by reputable people, including cops, whole classrooms of students and the their teacher, etc. Perhaps the most compelling evidence is the tracks that are so detailed that scientists accept that they cannot reasonably be fakes. The lines and whirls, etc. are so real in some that they have to BE real. The only other possibility is that someone very sophisticated and with access to some process that can create the lines and ridges in the sharper footprints is doing it. But, how?! If specialists in such things have no answer, the mystery deepens, unless Bigfoot is real.

How can they be so elusive? That they appear to so many tribes and cultures, from central Asia to Florida, suggests several forms, too.

There was supposedly one caught in Canada about a hundred years ago, and it was being taken by train to be examined, but escaped. It is odd how such arcane animals disappear when due for exams. I think it was described as a more upright chimp.

There is a photo of a large monkey or ape that was kllled in Amazonia as it attacked a man who had a rifle. The stretched out ape (?) was taller than most men and powerful, and not a known species. But it did not resemble a Bigfoot, just a large unknown primate of another sort.

The skins and skulls of presumed Nandi bears in Kenya and photos of them also disappeared before being sent to the British Museum. Dr. Louis Leakey had sight of them, or saw the photos, and thought they might be from a brown hyena, not native to where the items were collected. Then, there were the human or pre-human fossils that disappeared from China during the Japanese invasion...

Of course, the okapi, the gorilla, and the chimpanzee were all thought to be mythical by most until the late 19th Century. I think the unicorn can be explained by someone having seen an occasional one-horned oryx.

To clarify, those who's beliefs I was referring to believe that Bear Walk is real,
in the sense that if you went up and touched one you would feel them so
it's not simply some spirit entity, although that's where it's rooted from.
As I mentioned previously, this spirit aspect is why, they believe, Bigfoot
carcasses aren't found out in the woods by hunters & outdoors people.
When they are here, they are with us, when they are gone, they have
gone back to the spirit world from whence they came.......

Also, most, but not all, of the Ottawa's that I know
are reputable people, one is even a parole officer. :)

As time went on I heard numerous stories from them about seeing
Bear Walk, some from people who were in their 80's at the time they told
me their stories and who were as upstanding as any citizen I have ever
met so their credibility rating was very high in my book. While listening
to them, especially The Elders, it really made me wonder.......
