Scope or red dot sight

Well the 15/22's accuracy is good, but it's no tack driver. I prefer to have red dots not good accuracy guns and scopes on my more accurate guns. I have a red dot when I use my 22 conversion (same accuracy as my 15/22 I sold) and a 24x zoom scope on my ruger 10/22. I consider the 15/22 a great plinker, perfect for a red dot, you can add a magnifier later if you want. If I may make a suggestion, I have this red dot and I love it:

I like the dual optic idea...
There is a small low profile 4x scope with rails on the top and sides. I'm thinking about getting it, but I don't have the link right now. I'll have to find it. What I am thinking is attach a small red dot lens to the side rail so I have both. Easy to switch for long and short range targets since I like to shoot courses.
It all comes down to how you like to shoot. If you like to shoot cans of of tables or posts, a red dot is fine, if you like long range prone shooting, a scope is best. But if you like both, you might be better off with a scope red dot combo, or a red dot with a flip magnifier. It's all in your preference.
That's what's so awesome about a dedicated .22 in ar format. You can set it up however you want it, and you don't have to have a different bolt for .22, and another for 5.56, and a different scope for each and you have to zero them all over again everytime you switch out what you are doing. You can take them both out and have some fun without the hassle of swapping kits. Seriously, how cool is that?
Always remember, set up your rifle for you, not how others have told you to set it up. If you ask a question about grips, don't take the first answer, or only one answer as fact, it is one person's preference. Take them all and look at each item. Find the best one for you, and have fun... Ar 15's are like Barbie for men. It doesn't matter if the shoes match the shirt and pants, it matches your style, and its going to rock in your mind. And no matter what, even if you find the perfect outfit for your 15, you want to collect them all. So have fun with it.

I love my red dot for quick target acquisition. Like said, my 15-22 is not a tack driver. I've done the scope and could punch out 3" bulls eyes at 100 yards all day long, but never the same shot in one hole consistently even at 25 and 50 yards. The 15-22 is my favorite zombie gun and it is completely capable of 100 yard rapid fire head shots. That's why I like it. My scopes go on the old Marlin Model 60 and Marlin Model 883 .22wmr for varmint hunting and of course my hunting rifle.

My eyes are sorta odd (artificial lenses) and I have to wear glasses for anything under about 24-inches from my nose. So I have a 3-12X40 for anything over 50-yards and a three-color red-dot for anything under. Not as convenient as some setups but it works for my purposes. Just as a note; I had to put an additional riser-rail on my 15-22 to raise either scope to a level where I could get both a decent sight picture and a firm cheek weld. Not everybody needs it, especially for the red-dots; but it was needed to get operating handle clearance and keep me within the eye relief limits of the scope.

Yes, I added a 1" quick release mount for my scope that gave me the additional height I needed as well as a quick way to change to my red dot which has a quick release mount built in.

For the type of shooting I do, I like having both. Not mounted together but on their own QD mounts. If you don't buy super cheap optics and mounts that have too many features to be worth a XXXX, you will be better off. Then you can switch them between firearms, count your clicks, and always maintain your zero.

You "could" have the best of both worlds technically... do QD mounts that have a flat top and 45 offset picatinny... then you could run both 
Though as Josh says, I think this is first and foremost a red dot gun all day long.

The nice thing about Dick's is you can get a good hands on look see IF they actually have what you are looking for. BUT shop around. There are definitely better prices on the internet and alse where. Shop around.
