Just recently got my first AR-15, left handed Stag Arms. It had a cheap BSA red dot on it when I got it that I have since sold. I am looking for something to put on my AR. I have looked at AimPoint Pro, Bushnell TRS-25 and many other options including the Nikon M-223 1-4 x20. I purchased it for HD along with my Shotgun and various handguns and will probably not be shooting past 100 yrds. or so. Any suggestions??

HD and less than 100 yds I'd use a dot. Scopes don't lend themselves to quick target acquisition. Or you could do like one I saw that had a scope, with a red dot mounted on top, a laser off to the side and a flashlight underneath. I don't think I could hold all that weight on target very long.

The Aimpoint PRO is a fine optic for your intentions.
I managed several 2.5" -3" 5 shot groups with one mounted on a Noveske Rogue Hunter 6.8 while shooting off the bench at 200 yards.

At 100 yards and in you will be well equipped.

I would also go with the red dot. I traded for an M&P 15 a few weeks ago, that had a cheap bsa red dot. After shooting an AR with an Eotech, I put one in layaway at the LGS the next day. I like the big circle for fast aquisition and the 1moa dot for more precise work.

I can shoot a 4 MOA Aimpoint out to 200 yards on an IPSC target just fine.

I'd buy a 2 MOA dot now though if I was shopping.

For my AR an Aimpoint dot seems to be the best for speed, battery life, and durability for its intended use as a home defense rifle.

Attach a handle and a light buddy. Never over do your AR, eventually you'll want to shed the excess and it all ends up on eBay!

Aimpoint Comp ML3 2 MOA Red Dot Sight is An excellent optic, significantly more compact than other Eotech models. Also, the use of 123A batteries makes it easy to streamline your powersource with lighting and other electronics.

red dot type. I'd suggest something that you can use with both eyes open. Wouldn't hurt to be super familiar with the iron sights also.

The Sport I'm picking up came with a UTG red/green dot sight on a cantilever mount backed by a 3X multiplier in a fold away mount. Brand is insignificant, but the set-up is great. Dot sight when you want it, 3X dot sight when you need it, and I can co-witness the irons or use them by themselves. You're covered no matter what. Good luck. :)

I got a Burris Tac30 with the red dot mounted on top.
Scope for long shots and red dot for closer. Had them sighted in at Bass Pro a couple of weeks ago. My last two shots were dead on the target almost right on top of one another! Not sure what class I'd get bumped into in 3 gun with the red dot. I may take the red dot off for that and put the cantilevered iron sights off my 15-22 and put them on my M & P 15T for 3 gun competitions.

One other option is a Burris AR332. I have one mounted on my M&P MOE and at 3x, it has a good field of view, will also go without out a battery if needed.
