The 617-4 now wears a 1" UltraDot (no pictures of it; I just made it dirty at a match and I still need to clean it up).

Here's a couple:

The 8-3/8" is too danged heavy; for me to be accurate with it I have to rest it, sometimes with a bipod. It's pretty accurate when stable; and I've long since corrected my rather unfortunate grip selection (changed to Pachmeyers). The 4" w/ red-dot is also accurate, but for plinking fun, I prefer the un-scoped 6". -S2

would love to see a pic of the 617 with the ultra dot , thats the sight i have in mind , thanks

Alrighty, here you go:

I changed the grips (these have a rougher, more grippy texture) and the trigger (I like the .312" smooth forged trigger).

you're welcome; hope you've found some inspiration through the pictures. Good luck!

This is a Weaver 307S mount. It's *only* advantage is that it does not require D&T (like the Weigand). If your 617 has factory D&T, definitely go with the Weigand.

This is how you can tell without removing the sights: Open the cylinder and turn the gun upside down. The holes are drilled through the top strap and are visable from below.

I appreciate you posting that photo.

I have a Model 17 which of course is not drilled & tapped and have been considering the mount you have. From the looks of that target I imagine you are happy with it? I would be mounting a red-dot for target shooting only.

Ned, I would have said "Yes", until seeing this thread: ://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=282368

See Post #7, "I have the Weaver on a 686 and it left a serious cut mark on both sides of the cylinder frame."

The Weaver 307S has left no marks on my 617. However, his post makes me hesitate recommending it for your 17. YMMV!

(kle here, I'm not able to log-in with my "kle" account, so I made a new one)

I've since 'upgraded' my UltraDot-topped 617...with another 1" UltraDot; this one is brand-new, and matches the other brand-new 1" UltraDots on my 625 and 686:

(the old one is mounted on my S&W 41)
