SCSW Product Codes

I just received a copy of the 3rd Edition of SCSW in order to do some research on my newly acquired 686.

I'm trying to figure out where I can find my revolver's product code. The book mentions a couple of times that the product code can be found on the box. Well, I bought this at a pawn shop, and needless to say, I don't have the box.

Is the product code stamped somewhere on the gun? I know I can get a 'letter' from S&W, but I'm trying to get the info from SCSW.

There's no product code stamped ont he gun. Without the end label, you'll have to ID it by the features and timeframe.

686 plus-4 serial cckxxxx, so I can figure out manufacture date, but I was curious about some the items under the product code.

I believe a previous poster said that the factory could give you the product code, if you gave them the serial number.

Thanks for the info concerning calling S&W.

Just got off the phone with Joe @ S&W- very friendly and quickly gave me the product code, plus firing date, and shipping date.

Off to scour the SCSW to see (if anything) I can find.

I was going to suggest you call S&W and talk to Joe, but I see that you already talked to him.
Joe helped me out several times. He is one of the older employees and sure is helpful.
