I have an SD40 about 8 years old that I bought new. I haven't shot it much due to the trigger. I took it out a while ago and had the slide jam back after a shot. Not against a stop, not held by the mag, jammed back. I disassembled, looked it over carefully and could not see anything broken but I can physically slide the slide back to where I feel it binding. Obviously it has to go back to S&W but I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this happening. Again, I cannot see anything broken.

The other question is the trigger, has the factory made any trigger adjustments under warranty? I like the gun but the trigger really makes it hard to enjoy shooting it. I know there are plenty of threads about modifying it yourself, I prefer the factory doing it if possible.

First post, first welcome from Gettysburg,Pa. Tried greasing the slide rails, barrel notches, and light grease/oil on trigger assembly, etc. Good cleaning braking down the gun completely. GL and welcome.

I am not familiar with the particular firearm but from what you describe I would look at the take down lever/pin/button and the recoil rod and spring to see if there is any damage or binding etc.

As penna shooter sez' plus a thought from me--

If you look at the assembled pistol from both sides, does the gap look uniform between the slide & lower ***'y?

If so, pull the slide & look @ rails

Then look @ (4)rail tabs on lower ***'y

I know you mentioned re: sending it back, but they may charge you for a good cleaning

You mentioned "not shot much" - My sd40ve loosened up nicely after the first 200rnds

After over 500, it's nicer than my M&P shield 40 (cleaned every 200 or so

(pls let us know how it goes, thx)

luck,greg

Are you sure it is an SD? That model was introduced in 2012 not 8 years ago...Perhaps it is a Sigma?

Have an experienced gunsmith look it over first , then call Smith if they cannot resolve your problem.
