Question? Has anyone polished there barrel on any of their firearms? I seen videos on youtube about polishing barrels and thought about doing it. I am half and half on the idea. Any thoughts or comments about this.

It's a little bit of work and patients. Just doing the Barrel isn't bad (cause not much of it is seen) when you get into doing the slide it becomes tedious. If you plan to just polish what's seen from the extraction port that's the easiest. If you go all the way to the muzzle you will get the barrel smiles. Only they will be dull instead of shiny. Anywhere you have a shiny rub now will become a dull rub once that piece is polished unless you tackle the cause as well.

Keep in mind polishing can be addictive.

Thanks for the advice!

That would be a good question for S&W. Mine is so far out of warranty I don't bother calling.

Working on mine right now. Has anyone that polished the SD40VE had small pitting on the rectangle part of the barrel? If so did you start of with 600grit or so to smooth those out and work up to the 2000 and 3000?

It's mostly for looks. If you have friction points in the gun you could polish those out for smoother action.

I would like to do an SD. I haven't seen one yet, that doesn't it's not out there. Seems the SD wouldn't be easy due to all the different contours of the slide, but I'd like to give it a try.:D

The barrel isn't too bad, i looked at the slide and said no way in hell am i going to attempt that! I am polishing the mag now mostly just because i can

I just finished polishing my SD40VE barrel and it looks great! I used 1000 and 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and some Mothers Polish!

For the slide I sent it to James at XDHS2000.com for him to refinish the slide in black and have a set of TruGlo TFO sights put on! Can't wait to get it back!
