SD40VE VS SD9VE Weight

So I just looked on S&W's web page and noticed the
SD40VE and the SD9VE weigh the same.

I thought the 40 would weigh more, at least the slide should.

Any thoughts ?

Well, I don't know, but here is my thought: on an M&P, you can convert a .40 to shoot 9mm by replacing the barrel, recoil assembly, and magazines. Can you do the same with the SD40VE (convert it to shoot 9mm)? If so, then I can see where the SD40VE might weigh the same or even a tad less (unloaded) than the 9mm version, since the 9mm barrel that fits in the same slide might be slightly "thicker."

I'm just guessing...if you can't tell. :p
 
There's a touch more steel bored out of the .40 S&W (.400/.401 Bore diameter versus .355/.356) over the 9mm. So if the two calibers weigh the same, the .40 must pick up weight somewhere. Maybe in the slide or in the outside diameter of the barrel.

First, the Sigma/SD series DO NOT convert calibers because the mag/mag wells are different widths.
But, if I just weigh both the 9mm and .40 versions, they are within less than an oz. Recoil assembly is identical.
I'm not nearly interested enough to weigh all the parts individually.

Oh, come on now...I would, but I don't have a SD40VE to compare to my SD9VE.

(Or the interest either.... :p )
 
What I'm getting at is they use the same weight recoil spring.

So I was thinking the slide should weigh more because of the 40 recoil vs the 9mm.

Apparently it all evens out some where.

I would say to get the weight of the whole slide assembly slide, barrel, and recoil spring together on both 9mm and .40. Per ADP3's measurements the .40 should weigh less. If this is the case maybe the .40 uses a 18# recoil spring due to the higher pressures of the .40 cal bullet. While the 9mm uses the 18# recoil spring due to a heavier slide assembly.
