547?

I was not sure if this one needed to roll to the next forum down or not, since I think they started being made in 1980 and I’ve seen at least one that is pinned.

Anyway, I need one of these like I need an extra hole in my head, but I’m intrigued by the design. Can those with one weigh in on how well the unique extractor star works? I think it’s a neat concept for those that already shoot a lot of 9mm and want a revolver.

I was looking at a 3” RB that’s pinned and just thought it was neat.

I have one 4" with pinned barrel shipped February 1983, so they were shipping them at least that late...My other one with non-pinned barrel has the Julian date of April 14 1983 on the box label...Pretty close proximity for my pair...Here's a pic of each...Cool guns... ...Ben

Haha, my nemesis. I first learned of the 547 at a gun show maybe 15 years ago or so. Seeing one and talking to the dealer about it, I found it quite interesting, but not so interesting to me to peel off the $450 that he was asking or to even try and negotiate.

Now folks offer them at two grand.

The extractors work fine but are the design achilles heel because replacement parts are unobtainable.
Fired mine for the first time a few months back,
Recall that the hammer was heavy and recoil fealt more like a light .357 than hot .38 Special.

Never had an issue with the extractor, it works good. Speed loaders price will make your eyes water though...

I bought a 3" 547 in the early '80s. It had a pinned barrel. Years later, I bought another 3" 547; this one did not have a pinned barrel. That expensive extractor system worked perfectly with both guns. I shot all manner of 9mm ammo in them, including higher pressure stuff, and never had problem extracting the expended cases.

I had a couple HKS speed loaders that I didn't use. I put them on an auction site, and they sold quickly for $$$.

I had one with the three inch bbl. It was one of my very favorite guns that is postwar. But I just kept getting nervous that if I had an issue none would likely be able to fix it. Ended up selling it .

I finally found a nice 3” with original grips at the weekly VFW swap meet last November; got her for $1200, which I thought was a steal. It’s the first one I crossed paths with, all others have been on this forum.

I had some sticky brass from higher psi rounds and dirty chambers. Did not want to bang on the ejector, so I popped them out from the other end with my range rod. The only issue i've ever had, and it was self-induced.

Double action is extra "firm" because of the hold down pin that keeps the cases in place during firing; because they're tapered cases - (another neat gadget with this gun).

How much are these speed loaders going for? Brother was a gun show hound, and 20 years ago gave me 2 new in package that he found for $10. (still unopened)

Back in 1984, I saw an advertisement for these and put my name on a waiting list for a 3" model. It finally came in. I took it out to shoot, and fired 6 rounds and didn't care for it. I have big hands and it just didn't feel comfortable. I tried 6 more rounds, and still felt the same. So I took it home and cleaned it well, put it back in the original box that it came in, and it went into the safe where it now still resides. Once in Awhile I take it out to add a little oil, but no more shooting since the 12 rounds. I understand that these are a bit unusual target grips on it, so maybe that is why it feels funny in my hands. Other than that, neat little gun.

You got a pretty good price on that one. They (HKS Brand) regularly go in the $115-125 range on ebay; the last one under sold items went for $149. I've sold a couple on there when they didn't sell in the classifieds. The Safariland Comp 2 J-11 model, which is harder to find, don't seem to sell at all though.

The 4" square butt might be better suited to you
