SD9 ejects back at me

I have a new SD9 and have fired about 350 rounds through it. It has started ejecting the shells straight back. It does this about once or twice in a 16 round magazine. It is getting worse instead of better. What is the fix and should the gun be sent back for this or done locally?

Make sure you have a firm push and pull technique. You may be holding it loosely.

I fired my buddies 45 Cal Glock a few weeks ago. Did the same thing at first.

I was having this same problem last weekend with my SD. This is the third time I've been to the range with it. The first time I went I didn't really have any issues. When I got home from the first trip I was looking over my gun and noticed that the extractor had moved about 1/8 of an inch forward. I contacted S&W and they sent me a shipping label to get it back to them so they could take a look. I wanted to go to the range again before I sent it back to see if there really was an issue. It was ejecting straight back, bouncing off my forehead and earmuffs every 3rd or 4th round. And the rest of the empties were just sort of falling out of the ejection port instead of flying out to the right. I'm not sure if the extractor was causing the issues but I will be sending the SD back to S&W in the next week so they can take a look.

Thanks for the replies. My grip is a little loose. I tighten it up and see if it helps.

Glad to know S&W has a fix if it isn't grip.

Mine does the same thing. It ejects straight back about 1/4 of the time. They usuall fly over my right arm or shoulder. I dont bother me to much. I checked the extractor and it looks good. I am shoot some more and see what happens.

My M&P 9 has done that a few times, in fact had a hot one go down the back of my shirt into my pants. Not Fun! I was using Federal cheapo ammo, changed ammo and brass was flying! Try a different brand of ammo and see if you get different results.

Interesting thread. I saw a poster on another thread that stated his 908 would do the same thing, but only with 147 grain loads.

I just bought the SD9 and the first picture looks exactly how mine did out of the box. there is a small gap behind the extractor.
