SD9 Mag and racking problem

Recently attended a shooting class and put approx 300 rounds through my SD9. I was reloading all day with three 16 round mags with no problems.
After cleaning the gun and mags I reloaded all 3 mags with the normal 16 rounds. Each mag was now difficult to insert into the gun and the slide was very difficult to rack and chamber a round. With only 15 rounds in a mag it inserted fine and the slide racked with its usual ease. Reinspected the gun and mags with no visible problems. Obviously that 16th round is doing something to obstruct the slide but I can't see it.
S&W's response was to send the gun back. Seems like it should be a simple fix so not ready to do that yet.
Anybody have a similar experience? Thanks much.

Quite a few of us have had problems inserting the 16th, probably some other posts on here about it somewhere. I think most say it isn't a big-enough-deal to send back. I know I just accept the fact, doesn't bother me.

Never had that problem, and I can't see 3 mags going bad at the same time, but....

Just a guess, since you say you cleaned the mags, wondering if you reassembled them correctly, sounds like the mag springs are binding.

It is, just load 15 rounds. Often times companies design magazines for maximum capacity. They adjust springs, alter followers, etc. to get that one extra round in there. If downloading the mag by one round gives you 100% reliable service then just go with it. It is extremely unlikely that one round will ever make or break you in any other shooting situation (even though Hollywood and gun-forum commando's will tell you differently).

Yeah I have the same problem with my SD9, it has to be a spring issue, but rather than risk making the problem worse I just load 15 and go. I've brought the SD9 with me to the range lots of times with only 15 rounds and it functions perfectly so I have to honor the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Yeah I think I"ll just go with 15 in the mag. That's plenty. My guess is it's a follower issue, but as you guys are saying the cure is worse than the disease. Thanks for the replies guys.

Since it was working fine before cleaned the mags, it all most has to be where the problem is.
Take the mags back apart and find out where the problem is.
Do you know anyone that you could borrow a mag from to check if that is the problem?

Good idea on the borrowed mag. Closest I know is a friend with an M&P Pro. Not sure it fits. Thanks.

SD magazines are the same as Sigma's, not M&P's ....perhaps you know a Sigma owner that you can compare with.

The 16'th will be somewhat difficult to load the issue with inserting that magazine into the gun is that the slide is still in battery, if you insert with the slide in the open position you will notice it goes in very easily.
