I came back from the range tonight and was cleaning my gun when I found my tritium night sight insert was gone. I guess it fell out? Anyone else ever had this issue? So do I call S&W and they send me a new one, or does the pistol have to go back to S&W?

I have heard of white dots falling out but never a tritium vile. I would definitely call S&W asap. I would guess they will want at least the sight (if you are skilled enough to remove it) so they can see what went wrong. If you don't have the tools or know-how many just the slide will suffice. The good news is that there's a 99.9% chance that S&W will take good care of you. Best of luck.

At the very least the insert does not glow anymore. So I will give S&W call and go from there. If it does go back, what is the turn around time from them?

Hmm... If I remember right it was 17 days door to door 2 months ago for a new main spring and a very gritty trigger. But I sent it out on a friday which didn't help turn around time as it came back 2 weeks plus later on a monday or tuesday.

If you do sent it back to them, i'd tell them the trigger is still pretty gritty after a lot of rounds. I did that as I needed a new main spring anyway, why not have them do a quick polish job. They didn't do a super extensive polish but they did smooth it more than it was.

Who ever S&W gets their sights from, you could possibly call.I had one fall out of a colt commander from Ed Brown one time.I simply called them and explained what happened. They sent me a front sight,no questions asked and I (with a drift punch) slid it back into my front sight dovetail on the slide.

I believe S&W makes their M&P/SD sights in house now using Trijicon lamps.

So this is an on going problem, great....

I have e-mailed S&W and have not heard back from them.

S&W gets several thousand of emails every day, it's very easy for an email to get lost in the crowd. I would highly recommend you call them instead. I have heard very few complaints about Smith customer service when you deal with them over the phone.

Well you got it taken care of- my tritium sight was dead, they wanted to send me a replacement but I asked them to replace it for me, and they did. Think it was 17-18 days for me, too.
