If you bought the gun new, the test-fired casing should be in an envelope with the technicians name and date. If you bought it used ?????

Yeah, the fired casing date will ballpark it for you, but I don't think the serial # actually tells you the date it was manufactured.

Factory customer service will usually give you the ship date over the phone, which in the recent market is probably very close to the production date. Enjoy and be safe out there.

No longer put test fired case mine is couple months old I got no case

Same here. I have purchased two in the past month and neither had the envelope with spent casing and date on envelope.

Yeah, this is interesting...I remember reading about a state and legal/funding probs with either this system or the police ballistics archive or something involving money, spent rounds and government inefficiency...which doesn't nail it down much...

The date of manufacture should be on the label of the box, unless S&W has stopped doing that. Look for a long number as in 11032015, or 110315. I do not remember which it is, but the number translates into November 03, 2015

I contacted S&W CS and found out my soon to come home SD9VE Birthday is 12/7/2015. Kind of a cool born on date.

Bought (used) at LGS and didn't come in the box.
UPDATED: 4/21/2016
Called S&W(1-800-331-0852)and BoD for my SD9VE is April,10th 2013.
Surprised it took less than 2 minutes.

I would recommend reaching out to S&W via the online chat or calling them to see if they can tell you anything about the production date. Took all of 30 seconds once the rep came online for me. S&W Customer Service has a reputation for being one of the best in the industry.
