sd9ve sticky trigger pull

Trigger pull is smooth at home. Go to the range and after a few rounds fired the trigger pull becomes sticky and hard to shoot accurately. Dry firing at same speeds that I shoot at the range. Wishing I had bought a different gun with a better trigger. Already shot more than 3,000 rounds with this pistol.

Anyone else experienced this problem or know the cause?

When was the last time you disassembled it and cleaned all of the built-up crud after 3,000 rds that gets in the trigger group?

I initially completely disassembled mine, polished everything to a mirror finish, installed an APEX trigger, installed a complete (four spring) Galloway Precision trigger spring kit, and installed a NDZ Performance SS 18 lb. Guide Rod and flat spring. Lubricated well and fine tuned the trigger. I've never had any problems with it and trigger action is awesome!

Give it a little blast of Gun Scrubber , did my 5906 few years ago and flushed out a bunch of crud

I clean it at least every 300 rounds. Use fast break clp and hoppes gun oil in the black bottle. I polished all the metal that moves and makes contact with other metal using 2000 grit, mostly the trigger assembly and trigger bar.

Did you remove the extractor and the striker safety plunger and clean?

I remove and clean the striker, safety plunger and ectractor often. I did notice the striker bar pushes against the side of the plunger...not in the center. Would have to bend the striker bar contact point to center
..might mess up the striker bar. I also noticed where i place my finger on the trigger makes a difference. I have used 3 different triggers...s&w, apex and galloway. I might order another trigger bar and experiment with bending it to center on the plunger. Not available new but can buy used.

Do you have the magazine in pistol, when dry-firing
at home?

I have the magazine in when dry firing. Maybe i did not polish enough. Went back and re-polished key parts to a mirror finish. Right now have very smooth trigger pull dry firing. Will see if it holds up at the range in 4 days from now. I also ordered galloway spring kit.

I hesitate to comment without seeing the gun, but your use of "sticky" caught my eye. I've used Sigmas as loaners and trainers for two decades, and have noticed they gum up with too much lube. You said you use CLP, which leaves adequate lube, then add more gun oil; the excess oil is a "magnet" for firing residue.
For my Sigmas, which may get shot all day, I long ago quit using any oil, except for one drop on the sear. I clean the field-stripped frame with CRC Silicone spray, which uses Heptane as the propellant and leaves a thin layer of "dry" silicone in the action. I use no lube at all in the striker channel, relying on the plastic insert to be slippery enough.
Might be worth a try...

Nope...just ordinary CLP on mine. Smoothed out moving parts,
it's a great trigger. Stay away from the garbage aftermarket
parts.

Thanks for the reply. I cut back on the oil overall and stopped putting oil on the striker assembly. I also polished everything on the striker assembly. Also changed to a galloway striker spring because the apex and mcarbo springs had misfires. If the galloway spring has misfires I will go back to the original s&w spring. The original spring is only 4.75# pull vs 4.25# with the galloway spring. A new s&w spring is about 5.25# pull. (wheeler engineering tester with slow pull) I am pretty sure the sticky pull (sometimes feels more like rubbing) is coming from the striker assembly and I think the biggest problem is with the keepers holding the spring in place. Not sure, just my best guess. Will find out next tuesday at the range. The range has been closed recently and reopening today.
