SD9VE vs. Ruger 9E

I've seen the 9E go for $325 locally. I was tempted, but passed.

I've owned my SD9VE since 8-2-14 @ $299 from another fairly local shop. The more I shoot it, the better I like it! I STILL think it's a better value than the 9E.

I do like Ruger handguns, both revolver and semi-auto. Wouldn't let my SR1911 go for anything! My P89DC is built like a tank and is a beast when you need to empty a mag fast. Both of these are all metal platforms and what I was accustomed to all these years.

The SD9VE was my very first poly frame purchase; my M&P 45FS was my second. I see at least 2 more in my future-M&P 9FS and M&P 22 (not sure which one yet, or maybe both). I still love revolvers, and if my bank account would allow, I'd own a safe full of them!

Ooops, sorry I got off topic! Anyway, I still think the SDVE is a better value :-)

The ruger is marketed to people looking for the features it has. If I didn't want a safety a da mag disconnect I wouldn't have bought it. The M&P comes with safety or mag disconnect. But not both on on the same gun ( at least not when they first came out) so it was not an option for me

you know what else the ruger has that the sd doesnt - huge grinding marks on the trigger guard where they tried to clear the mold marks. there is no way im gonna buy a gun that looks like a monkey with a grinder has been working on it.
all sr9 and sr40 have them. a real turn off if you ask me. i was so hoping the e version would be better but out of about 50 or more ive looked at all have it.
the sr45 doesnt so i havent a clue why it continues unless they had a huge number of frames blemished and then decided to use them.

I have both. The price difference in my neck of the woods is $20 more for the 9E over the SD. I enjoy shooting them both. The 9E feels a bit heavier than the SD, and I notice a tad bit less felt recoil from the 9E. I do believe the SD to be a better value for the dollar, given it comes with 2 mags. I do like the trigger much better on the 9E, though the trigger on the SD is alright, not great but alright. I like the way the SD points, better than the 9E, and the SD feels all around better in my hand than the 9E. I also like the slide serrations on the SD much better. I simply get a better grip on them over the 9E. But I think the 9E is a better looking gun than the SD. Owning and shooting both, if I could only keep one of them, it would be a tough decision, but I believe I would keep the SD. But until that day comes, I will keep both and enjoy them both.

Interesting thread. Two of the complaints about the Ruger are the specific reason I bought the SD9VE CA version, the pop up/tactile round in the chamber and the magazine safety. Maybe I should have looked at the Ruger.
