Has anyone actually tested the factory trigger pull weight on the SDVE pistols?
Then what it was after an APEX trigger kit was installed?

Mine was a little over 8lbs stock. Can't remember the ounces. Now it's at 6lbs 1oz with the Apex kit. A guy in the SD group I'm in installed the Galloway kit in his. His dropped to 4.5lbs.

Have either of you had/have any FTF or FTE after the trigger install?
BTW, 8 lbs. is a lot better than 12-14 lbs. on the SW9&40VE I used to own!

Yes, when all we could get was the Sigma, the moaning was constant "If only I could get an 8# pull I would be SOOOO happy!"
Then S&W brought out the SD (improved Sigma) with an entirely different trigger about 8#, and the internet moaning now is how long and heavy the SD trigger is. Oh well..............

Absolutely zero malfunctions so far. But I've only put a few hundred rounds through it after the spring change. This pistol is still like a starving pig. It eats everything I feed it.

I never noticed a trigger pull issue with my SD9VE until I got onto this forum. It seems to be a big issue but isn't one for me.

I'm happy that the bullets always go where the gun is pointed when it fires. What more could I want?

Regarding the SD trigger, mine was exactly 8# out of the box. That was a year & 2500+ rounds ago !!! From what I've read on this forum, the APEX trigger (w/ S&W factory springs) will lighten the weight of pull by apx. 12% or so. Add in the APEX spring kit and it can go quite a bit lower. Never actually felt the reduced pull since I don't personally know any other SD users in my area! IMHO, the main reason to install the APEX trigger is for greater "mechanical advantage" due to it's actual design (very Glock like) !! Reducing the actual weight of pull is a personal preference, some like a fairly light trigger, some a medium trigger. As to the "quality" of the SD trigger pull, I believe that has more to do with how well the mating surfaces have been "honed" at the factory. That and a LOT of shooting !!!

I owed a SD9 and installed an Apex trigger kit. It lightened the trigger. But I didn't like it. The break was soft, kinda mushy. I prefer the crisper break of the stock trigger, even if its a tad heavier. I took out the Apex kit. Since then I purchased a SD9VE and the trigger on it is better than the SD9. It has the same crisp break, but a more distinct and audible reset. I'm thinking about buying all the stock SD9VE springs and installing them into the SD9.

But here is something I have learned about triggers: light or heavy, soft or not, the gun I shoot the most is the gun I shoot the best. Each trigger is different - even when compared between the same models. Shooting a gun, learning the trigger and practicing takes these differences out of the equation. In my opinion, we often make too much of trigger weights, pull distance and reset. Shoot more and worry less.
