This pup has been with us nearly nine years. His 9th birthday anniversary was the 22 of April. He came to us as a healthy 10 or 11 weeks old puppy from a hack breeder. We went to get him and he immediately adopted us.

He started sugaring a few years ago but is still very active. The new pup (2 years old) and he play just about constantly.

Birthday wishes to Seamus.
I’ve got one of our Goldens, 6 1/2 year-old Capella, curled up against me, snoring softly with her feet twitching intermittently chasing imaginary squirrels.
Life is good, for both of us.

Today at noon, Seamus went over the bridge to be with our other dogs who have preceded him. He had stopped eating and drinking and this morning was not able to stand. There were a bunch of other medical issues and we opted to help him along. He went peacefully.

Honey is still with us and realizes he is gone. Not to worry, I am sure there will be another fur baby to grace out house.

It breaks my heart to read this. It is obvious how much love you had for Seamus and he obviously reciprocated. I have absolutely no doubt you will see each other again on the other side and his feathers will be wagging in joy.

Today will not be easy for us. Picking up toys and putting them away. Same with bedding, crates, etc. Already, normally when I sit to do my crosswords and drink my coffee, there was no big furry head nudging my hand to be petted. But, Seamus will be the 7th dog to rest under the dogwood tree outside my wife’s office. It is something we prepare for and are very aware of, but it is still not easy.

Thanks for listening to me and for being there for us. It is appreciated.

I recall reading that the man/dog years thing is flexible, not fixed. It starts off at 1/7 and then goes down, but they still age faster than we do.

Kevin, thank you for what you and your wife do for the animals. It is appreciated, not just by us, but I am sure by the animals, too. I am sorry for the loss of Seamus. But I believe he had a much better life with you than with the "hack breeder's" next customer. I've said it before and I'll say it again, On behalf of the human race, thanks for making us look good.

No problem from here. I have done similar. He was a handsome boy and destined for the show ring except for one tiny cowlick on top of his head. Because of that, the breeder was getting rid of him. I am glad he came to us.

A new puppy has adopted us!!

Thread 'Please Welcome Poppy to the Fold'

As I mentioned in a previous thread, Seamus left us on 10 March. On 21 April, this little one came into our lives and adopted us.

Her call name is Poppy and while a handful, she is a delight. Because of Herself’s tireless work to benefit rescues, a breeder heard of our loss of Seamus and offered us this little girl. Herself asked me what I thought and I said I believe I have one more puppy left in my life. I am very glad that Poppy felt the same and adopted us.

I just came to your post. I always enjoy your comments about your dogs so I was happily scanning along until I saw that Seamus had gone on to the land from which no one, or no dog, ever returns. I’m so sorry. Some happy day we will join all of our dogs in that land and be together again. I am sure of this.

@StrawHat i am so sorry for your loss, mine passed away three years ago. he was so sick and in so much pain that i had to put him down myself. haven't had the courage to find another fury friend since.
 
I missed this the first time around. I’m sorry Seamus is gone, but what a good life he had.

When my beloved Rottie started to get the sugar face, I got a backup puppy. I am not wired to live without a dog.

Randy died at home, quickly. He was almost 12, pretty old for a Rottie.
