Sorry, partner: I ran a search on Ammoseek (which is an app that searches a variety of ammo sources - generally finds what I want) and did not find anything matching those parameters. Good luck with it!

The concept of having a practice TMJ round of the same weight, power charge, and bullet profile as a more expensive JHP defense round seems like a good one to me.

Practice cheap and carry the good stuff.

Winchester Train and Defend is another product line of that type.

I guess you are still OK with Speer if you carry the 125 gr Gold Dots and practice with the Lawman 125 TMJ.

But, as the OP says, the 135 Lawman seems to be unobtainium.

The 135 gr Gold Dot is gone also -- at least for now.

Joe,

Give Federal American Eagle 130 gr. Ball a try. It's pretty darn close POA/POI-wise to the Speer GDSB load, in my experience.

That certainly makes sense; somewhat more recoil due to somewhat greater muzzle velocity and slightly heavier bullet is reasonably similar POI-wise to having somewhat less recoil at somewhat lower muzzle velocity and slightly lighter bullet.

Go to Target Sports USA. It's showing out of stock right now but put yourself on the email list. They are pretty good emailing you when it comes back in.

TARGET SPORTS USA USED TO BE MY USUAL SOURCE FOR THIS LAWMAN AMMO. A FEW MONTHS AGO, WHEN I TRIED TO RE-ORDER, THEY WERE "OUT OF STOCK". AT THAT POINT, I DID ENTER MY E-MAIL ADDRESS, BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED THAT THEY RECEIVED A SUPPLY......

SINCE THERE IS NEGLIGIBLE DEMAND FOR .38 SPL FROM THE MILITARY OR LEO COMMUNITY, ITS DIFFICULT TO COMPREHEND WHY THERE WOULD BE A SHORTAGE OF THIS AMMO. LIKEWISE, SINCE GOLD DOT, AND ITS LAWMAN PRACTICE ROUNDS HAVE RECEIVED RAVE REVUES FROM ANY PUNDIT WHO HAS TESTED THEM, ITS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHY THESE LOADS WERE DISCONTINUED......

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF OUR MEMBERS WHO TOOK THE TIME TO RESPOND TO ME--BOTH TO CONFIRM MY WORST FEARS, AND TO SUGGEST SOME VIABLE ALTERNATIVES......

I saw 4 boxes of 135 gr. at a show here in Virginia a few months ago. Literally the only table out of a 1,000 table show that had any. At $27/50, I restrained myself to two boxes and have been kicking myself ever since for not just buying all of them. My mistake thinking it would reappear sooner rather than later...

Been on email alert at all the usual suspects, not a word in months...

YES, they are out of stock at the present, but sign up with your email address and they will let you know when it becomes available again.

Speer Gold Dot LE Duty 38 Special Short Barrel Ammo 135 +P Grain Jacketed Hollow Point

Ammo companies will make production runs of certain rounds/bullets, then may not produce them again for several months (probably the case with Speer .38 Special) to years (.32/20, .30 Luger, .455 Webley, etc.). Nothing to do except to keep looking, someone put away a supply but it may not be cheap. Good luck in your search.

Wow! That scares me! I'm gonna call Speer and ask if they still make both the 125 grain and 135 grain Short Barrel .38 loads. I use the former in barrels of at least four inches.

I've found both to be exceedingly accurate.

But if I need deep penetration from a .38, I use lead HP Plus P stuff.

Which .38 lead HP +P penetrates deeply (assuming it expands)?

Remington R38S12. The latest HTP iteration can be a little dicey from a snub in terms of expansion, however. Such was not always the case...

I shot lots of R38S12 (original and probably somewhat more potent Express Line version which averaged close to 820 fps) years ago and penetration was close to but somewhat less than Speer GDSB; 12" vs. 12.5" average in bare gel from 17/8" snub.

Old thread. If anyone is still interested, Rocky Mountain Reloading has the Speer 135 gr. TMJ bullet in bulk. Bullets only, not finished ammo. I recently bought 500 of them for $47.

This is the ammo forum, not the reloading forum. No reason to bring back a thread from the Abyss for an off-topic post.

Welcome to the forum.
