Secondhand Lions!

That's a great picture, I have a copy of it!
Anything with Duval and Caine is usually always good!;)
Yes I do believe that back in the day it was a sleeper!

Great movie! The pairing of Cain and Duvall made for movie magic. My favorite scene is the opening showing the long entry road with all the sign's, I want a place like that!

An old friend, now deceased brought a dvd of the movie in when he was framing and wiring the interior of my shop building a number of years back. He said that when he saw the initial scene with the salesman he immediately thought of me. I really didn't think I was that bad, but then again I don't have any problems out here either.

We are big fans of the movie and think it is great and a lot of fun. I loved Hub telling Mae's boyfriend he was lucky that Jasmine got to him before he and Garth did. It is also fun to watch the original ending with everybody who showed at the funeral to pay their respects: Walter and his wife and kids, the four hoods now grown men, a French Foreign Legion honor guard and even the sheik making an appearance to show his respects.

One of the best movies ever made, definitely on my favorites list. Rarely can I watch a movie more than once, and I have seen this several times and every time it is entertaining. Wonderful, heartwarming movie ♥•.¸❤❤¸.•♥

I still have a copy of SHL on VHS, but haven't used my VHS player for years. SHL is one of my wife's favorites. Another one she really likes is Happy, Texas, I have it on VHS also.

I got a steal of a price on a new Sanyo combination VHS/DVD player from H-E-B's electronics section about a year ago (when they still had an electronics section), it had been sitting on a shelf there for at least six months. I offered $25 for it, and they accepted. I still have many old movies on VHS, but I hardly ever watch them. The picture quality of the old VHS tapes has deteriorated quite a bit with age, and some of mine are probably close to 30 years old. But I just can't bring myself to pitch them.

I watched this movie years ago on DVD, enjoyed it, then flipped the DVD over and discovered the stories about the making of the movie. The owners of the house appeared to tell their tale, and low and behold it was my college roommate with whom I had played football with. I had not seen or heard from him since being apart of his wedding, long ago. With a little research I was able to find him and made a trip down to hippieland for a visit. As it turns out, he and his wife had bought the house to raise their two boys in a very traditional manner and almost went broke trying to keep the house in working order. About the time they were going to give up on the house and sell, the movie opportunity came along. Part of the agreement was to remodel and fix the house to their specifications after filming. It was great to see the remodeled house and to catch up with an old friend.

Second Hand Lions and John Wayne in HATARI...Red Buttons' rocket scene and milking the goats is classic! Two of my frequently-watched favorites, right up there with my all-time favorite...JEREMIAH JOHNSON; the original version, not the later one! :)

Now I'm going to have to dig it out and watch it ! ;)

Something that we both love about the film is how when we suggest it to people who may have heard of it but never seen or never heard of it is how much they enjoy it after seeing it. It is a fun little family film without all the trash you find in so much now. It is not full of profanity, sex, violence and even one of the most fun violent part is done humorously and innocently. Hub and the four hood was priceless and well done. I love Walter telling Garth that he needed to get in, Garth asks why, Walter well there's four of them, CRASH!!, Well, three of them. Wendy always said if that if a guy didn't like Secondhand Lions and The Princess Bride they probably would not be interested in the type of person she is. Both of those are movies that she and I find to be fun, entertaining films that appeals to the young at heart.

Count me as another big fan of this film. I too never heard of it, my sons also told me about it. I saw it during a free extra channels weekend a number of years ago. Will watch it whenever I stumble across it. My sons say I'm becoming more like Duvall's character every day :D.

And indeed it was Breathed who drew the cartoons.

Best boys' movie ever! Reminds me of the time took off from school and hitchhiked to my 2 bachelor uncles' place 500 miles away. I showed up on their doorstep at 10 PM and they acted like they'd been expecting me all the time.

Which is why I got a kick out of the kid consulting the map torn out of the phone book.

GREAT movie!

A great heart warming story with two outstanding veteran actors: Michael Cain and Robert Duval. I have lost count of the number of times I've watched this movie...
