The Glock 19 as it's new issue sidearm. I think it's the 19 though the news source didn't say it directly. But it's 9mm and will replace SIGs in 357 SIG.

I heard about a year ago that they were seriously looking for a replacement. I would have thought they would have picked the p320 to be perfectly honest but nothing wrong with a compact Glock; nothing at all wrong with it. I believe those on the protective details are told to stick with issued p229s and 5.7 pistols but the guys and girls working the bank frauds and counterfeiting generally get to carry whatever they like.

I just text a friend. There will be a slow integration of gen 5 Glocks. Most will see a 19 MOS or a 26. A few tactical operators will get some model 45s; unclear if those are MOS. It sounds like anyone who wants to keep their current issues weapon or their personal weapons can.

I hate to say it, but that is just because, to me, they are ugly pistols, the Glock 19 is an excellent choice for a duty sidearm. Glocks are good tools. They are reliable, reasonably accurate, and durable. The downsides are the stock triggers and they lack the classic beauty of sidearms such as the 1911, Hi-Power, or S&W Model 39.

I seem to be speaking against myself.

But beauty really means nuffin if it is a reliable, combat accurate and durable service pistol.

The "famed" 1911 was "ugly" by the period standards. :D

Quick look up says only the sights are done here, manufacturing is Overseas.

I qualified @ LEOSA in June and found out the department will start replacing the G23 w/the Gen 5 G19 w/i the coming year. Our experience w/Glock has been exceptional since the mid ‘80s. They’re ugly but they do work.

An add on to my previous post

I really don't like Glock aesthetics.:p And I don't own one for that very same reason.
But I have tried several. And I do have to respect them for their performance.

So it's life.

The Glock 19 does many things well. I just recommended it last night to one of my kids looking for a good all-around handgun. My boys all have Glock 19’s and/or M&P 9mm.

Glock Austria vs. Glock USA made Pistols

As of 2017...

“The Glock USA pistols have American made frame, slide and barrel. The rest of the components come from Austria. All materials for manufacturing the frame, slide and barrels come from Austria and shipped to the US facility. There are no material procurements in the US. Glock Austria keeps 100% quality control of every aspect of production.”

I also presume the corporate profits go to Austria.

The people in the field probably didn't get a vote on this choice. Just guessing.

Guaranteed the federal guys in the field had absolutely no vote on what the agency buys... I know many of them and firearms info dribbles down from the firearms unit to instructors and to the troops. Now, depending on the agency, some may be able to keep what they have but that won’t last forever...

But where is the ownership, where does the money go. Most certainly not to Smyrna, GA. :(

We need to buy American !

I'm pretty sure all those nice Smyrnarians that build them pistols believe the money goes to them. In a global economy, "Buy American" has many facets. edit: The largest shareholder in American Outdoor Brands is a global investment advisor/manager with 70 offices in 30 countries. The second largest in Vanguard Group, one of the largest global investment fund managers with hundreds of offices all over the world. The third largest, Dimensional Fund Advisors, has 1,400 employees in 13 global offices. They have three in the United States. State Street Global Advisors, number seven on our list, has four offices in the US, and dozens about the globe. Other top ten shareholders including a Norwegian oil industry holding company and a Canadian pension fund.

SIG USA is not the German/Swiss company it once was. They are completely different companies.

The 'new' SIG P-series are even different, with different designs that are not as durable nor nearly as reliable as the old P-series classics from Germany.

SIG won the US Military pistol contract. Those pistols have had problems (see the reports from the Pentagon: triggers breaking, ejecting live rounds, etc). NJSP sued SIG for 1) sending NJ troopers a different model of 229 than was agreed to after testing 2) failing to get the replacement 229's to reliably function. The NJSP went with the G19

Let's not get started on the 365 durability problems. Nor the fact that the P320's would fire when the back of the slide was smacked.

When it comes to all-metal DA/SA autos, I still trust the Beretta and the CZ. Not much else out there.
