Just my opinion,

But my gun/s always stay on my person. I carry IWB 90% of the time, and holster is folded into my pants when sitting. Bug is in pocket.

Use handicapped toilet when available. :)

I would not hang my gun on the clothing hook, I've read about people reaching over to see what they can grab - and you're in no position to give chase. If I'm carrying IWB and sitting I just hold onto the gun & holster.

Also, please do not use the handicapped stall if you are not handicapped. I am and it is frustrating to see able bodied people using it when I really need it.

I carefully lower my pants and remove the gun from the holster and lay the gun on in the crotch of the pants until the mission is completed and the paperwork is finished. I then pick up the gun and pull up my pants and place the gun in the holster and buckle the pants. I will not let my gun out of reach, I have to heard to many stories of people leaving the guns in the bathroom,or droping it and it going off or playing with it and it going off. I think each person does what they do because it's what they are comfortable with.

Gun (semi auto and square) goes on the toilet paper dispenser or the little folding shelf. If those are not available or not an option then i just put it on top of the crotch of my pants

I leave my gun in my holster, on my belt. I buckle my belt and use outward pressure with my knees to keep it off the floor.
With my neuropathy I also depend on handicapped accessible facilities, parking spaces, ect. and I also find it rather frustrating to see able bodied people using them.

The title of this thread, and since it was posted by a plumber, made me wonder if I really wanted to open and read this thread! :D

I agree with you...my wife is handicapped, and she encounters the same thing. (Of course, there are no urinals in the Ladies Room, so they have to use a stall, but they don't have to use the HC stall unless it's the only one open.)

I have to say that most of the stalls that I go in are so nasty (is there some rule that says people don't have to flush other than at home?) that there is no way I'm letting my pants, much less my gun, touch the floor!

Some restrooms now are "Family" rest rooms, which are single occupant use only. They have a fold down table for changing babies, and that is a good shelf to lay your gun on, or use the clothing hook. The danger is, if your gun leaves your body, you have a chance of forgetting it. If you hang it on the clothing hook on the stall door, or the bathroom door (single occupant rest room) then you are less likely to forget it.

I make a conscious check to see if I have wallet, keys, cell phone, and gun before I leave any place, especially it is a place where I might have taken off or dropped one of these items.

Same for me. I've heard too many times of both civilians and LEO's leaving them if they take them off the belt and set them someplace.

This is the correct answer. The firearm is under control of the owner and there is little possibility of accidently leaving the stall without it. This is the method recommended by many law enforcement training academies. Do not place the gun on the paper dispenser, toilet tank, etc. It is too easy to become distracted with other thoughts and neglect to retrieve the gun when leaving the stall. As a specific example, my agency had a trained, experienced officer who did exactly that not once but twice. The first instance resulted in disciplinary action and the second time she left her sidearm on the tissue dispenser in the PUBLIC restroom of the federal courthouse. This resulted in the officer being fired from the force.

It is the funniest thread of the day. I guess we all have our KNOW-HOWs. LOL

+1 agreed. This is what I do & makes me the most sense IMO as well as most comfortable for me.

Sometimes I just ask someone at the urinal to hold it for me..J/K:D

Years ago I was standing at a urinal in a public restroom when two guys in suits with microphones in their ears came in and quickly looked around, then Mr. George H.W. Bush joined me at the urinal trough. I completed my business, washed and dried my hands, and excused myself while passing the Secret Service guys inside and outside the door.

My Browning Hi Power caused no problems at all, but there was certainly a possibility of everyone in the room needing to use the facilities had anyone noticed it. At least they would have been in the right place for that.

The solution is to pick up a 'Number 2 Holster'...

I HAVE TAUGHT THIS FOR MANY YEARS. THERE HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED INSTANCES IN MY AGENCY( ONE OF THE LARGEST IN THE COUNTRY OVER 10,000 SWORN) OF THE FOLLOWING. LEAVING GUNS ON TOILET TANKS 1-2 A YEAR AND HANGING THE GUN BELT ON THE HOOK(2 DOCUMENTED INSTANCES) AND A HAND OVER THE TOP AND DUTY RIG AND GUN GONE. SEVERAL INSTANCES OF LADIES WITH GUN IN PURSE ON THE HOOK AND PURSE AND GUN GONE. FOLKS THIS A PROBLEM THAT DOES ARISE FROM TIME TO TIME. THE GUN IN THE PANTS IS THE BEST THAT WE'VE HAD AND HEARD OF. IT'S A BIT AWKWARD AT FIRST BUT YOU ADAPT. A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT FOR SOME OF THE LADIES AT TIMES BUT WE ARE ADAPTABLE. JP

This thread comes up from time to time, and I love the interesting answers.

This has never been a problem for me for several reasons:

1. I've only been concealed carrying for a little over a year, and I have not had to use a public restroom in that time. I avoid them at all costs. Have you seen those places?

2. I have a good belt! My Beltman holds my carry piece firmly in place. I can drop my trousers (at home of course) and the gun happily stays right on the belt, no problems at all.

3. I don't carry a bazooka in my pants (feel free to come up with your best comment there). My heaviest carry gun is a 4513 in a Crossbreed type holster. No problem staying upright on my belt. If you carry a 92 or a 686 in a high riding holster on a Walmart belt, you will have problems.
