Seeking additional info about this revolver

Just to get things started, that looks like a Model 30. Open the cylinder and see if "M30-1" is stamped on the frame. Per the book, that H_____ serial number should be 1971-72. "Built on the round butt I frame..."

Judging by the photos and serial number it appears that you have a S&W model 30-1. The .32 Hand Ejector received a number designation in 1957 and it was changed to the slightly larger J frame from the former I frame. This was the -1 variant. If you open the cylinder, in that space under the barrel I would bet there are the numbers 30-1, the model number.
The H series of numbers began in 1969 until 1976 when the 30-1 was discontinued. The 30-1 had a "round" butt, while the 31 had a square butt. This revolver would fire the .32 S&W long cartridge, and the .32 S&W short if you should desire.
The .32 round used to be more popular and earlier in the 20th century was a common police round. There is some good self defense type ammo, Buffalo Bore seems popular, but-I'm told- its at its best as a target round with wadcutter bullets. Overall a nice pistol.
