I have the chance to buy a couple revolvers from a guy who inherited a collection from his father. Would appreciate some quick ball park estimates assuming everything is in OK to Good condition with boxes and papers. I can base my offers on this info. All .357mag unless noted otherwise. Thank you very much

1. Model 14-3 (.38sp), Blued, 8.5" (could be mistake for 8 3/8")
2. Model 66-1, Stainless, 4"
3. Model 66-2, Stainless, 6"
4. Model 13-1, Blued, 4"
5. Model 19-3, Blued, 3" (could be mistake for 2.5"/2.75")
6. Model 19-3, Blued, 4"
7. Model 19-3, Blued, 6"
8. Model 27-2, Blued, 8" (could be mistake for 8 3/8")
9. Model 29-2 (.44mag), Blued, 8" (could be mistake for 8 3/8")
10. Model 629-1 (.44mag), Stainless, 6"

I would suggest checking for closed transactions on some of the auction/sale sites for guidance...You can also check the For Sale section of this forum for similar firearms...Asking us for prices of guns we can't see from different parts of the country (values vary) is guesswork at best...Doesn't the present owner know what he wants for each?...It would be unusual if he doesn't......Ben

A few thoughts....

First, buy the gun, not the story. Condition matters.

Second, the advice above is good. Just make sure that you are looking at closed auctions that actually had a buyer. There are quite a few guns out there with prices that are simply not realistic that stay on auction sites forever, being relisted every time the "auction" closes with no buyers.

Third, be careful. Some of those models may not be on "the list" and could cause problems in California.

Post pictures when you can and we will help.

I will try, and I will not use “okay to good condition” because in collector parlance, that means almost precisely “absolutely beat on, worn, damaged and possibly altered.”

In fantastic condition but not quite mint, I would guess:
1) 14-3 8-3/8” $850
2) 66-1 4” $800
3) 66-2 6” $750
4) 13-1 4” $800
5) 19-3 snub? $800
6) 19-3 4” $750
7) 19-3 6” $700
8) 27-2 8-3/8” $1100
9) 29-2 no idea
10) 629-1 no idea

My quick quotes require your original boxes and must have original stocks and UNALTERED GUNS. No engravings or inscriptions, no oddball aftermarket sights and definitely no rubber or aftermarket grips/stocks. Not just any box, but the proper original box with an end label that has matching serial number. Cleaning rod, brush, mop and sight adjustment tool will ENHANCE the price I estimated.

Condition means a LOT. And add some dumb premium for crazy California that the rest of us surely don’t actually know, but we know the market is crazy.

Hope this helps, any argument against my numbers is amusing and appreciated. :D

I’d agree with Sevens assessment and would add that the 44 Mags would be around $1,000 to $1,100 also assuming good condition and nothing too special. Those all being prices I’d expect to pay at a gun show or local shop. Retail sticker prices might be higher…. Friend prices would be lower…. All prices are subject to wild variations depending on how motivated the seller and buyer are and heavily dependent on actual condition.

There are just too many variables to suggest a value on any of those guns. For example, the 29-2 could be from 1980 or 1962 with original cokes. The value of those two are far apart. Also, selling guns across State lines presents certain legal challenges. Best of luck to you.

If the guy who inherited these is a California resident then it’s not selling across state lines at all.

Misrepresentation of barrel lengths is incredibly common with revolvers by those unfamiliar, with them often taking measurement from the front of the frame rather than the face of the cylinder.

None of these are particularly rare or unusual but I also understand there is a “California premium “ involved also.

The best angle is to offer a price for all of them !

You should 100% make a gunbroker account. Go to advanced search and then search by completed auctions. Then you look at recent completions with actual bids that weren’t relisted. It’s the best way to see what people are actually paying.

Beware some of the gunbroker postings are insanely priced and this does not show value. You’ll have to search by completed auctions with bids.
