I have a rickety 12' cabinet/work bench in my garage with a Formica top. I would love to replace it with secure storage for light amounts of ammo, but lots of tools etc... I would also like to retain the function of a work bench. I am looking at the Lyon DD1110 unit.
1110 Industrial Counter Height Cabinet - All-Welded 14 Gauge Steel | Lyon

My thoughts are to string four of them side by side, and top them with wood, to loosely mimic what I currently have but, it would be more secure.

The Lyon units are pretty spendy. Does anybody have any experience with anything similar to these units?

Thank you

Check out the Seville brand of steel cabinets. I just bought and assembled a vertical cabinet, but they also make cabinets that may be in the configuration you are looking for. I was impressed with the quality of the finishing and how well the holes lined up for assembly, as well as having all of the necessary parts included. You can see them at Walmart and Sam's Club.

I was thinking about a "job site box" for a corner of my garage with a golden rod dehumidifier. Have to anchor it the concrete. Those Lyons cabinet are nice, but when you multiply them by the four you want that puts it out of my range...

No question the Knaack's are huge on quality. I would love to go with that brand, but having it as a top loader takes it out of contention for me because I plan on laying plywood across the top for use as a work bench. It seems like Lyons is unique with this particular product.

At 46" high, that will be a tall work bench.

If you'd consider options other than a "work bench" style, maybe search for a WW2 vintage Remington Rand 4 drawer file cabinet.

I found one a few years ago. It locks and is lined with concrete. Think it weighs about 300 pounds empty. Holds a LOT of ammo and other goodies.

Not sure just how secure you want but the cabinet you're looking at isn't very secure. Although expensive, check Lista or Vidmar.

Much more secure and well built.

+1 on the Vidmar cabinets. I've got one under my workbench where I store a lot of loaded ammo, reloading equipment, and primers. Mine stands 33" high, but I think they come in different heights that would make a good base for a work bench. They are pricey, but mine was free...I happened to be in the right place when they were doing some spring cleaning at a hospital where I was working and it was getting ready to be thrown in a dumpster.

I thought you were looking for a place to store some of your belongings. When I read this I flashed to when I came home from basic training and found all my clothes gone, my car badly broken. So i would not suggest my parents Place.
