Just joined the Forum and find it so informative. I'm hoping someone can help me determine the age a/or factory shipping date for a 32 cal hand ejector revolver I recently purchased. I think it is a model 30; 6 shot swing out revolver; serial #632791; cal is 32 S&W long; 3" barrel; nickel finish; 3 screw; round butt; fixed serrated front sight; walnut grips; flat latch thumb plate. The revolver looks like new. Thank you very much.

Welcome to the group ! About 1955 or early 1956 the upper sideplate screw was deleted circa 1956 at around serial number 640980. Someone will be around shortly to give a more exact date. It is simply known as .32 Hand Ejector model numbers did not start until 1957. HTH

Thanks for your help. I was trying to compare the revolver to the info in the S&W Standard Catalog and some I gleaned from Forum postings.

Also, it's at least a 4-screw, not a 3-screw (there's a screw under the right side stock 'ear'. I can't see in front of the trigger guard to tell if it's a 5-screw or not.

Thanks - there is no screw on the front of the trigger guard. So, it must be a 4 screw like you said.

Thanks -- I now know this is "pre model" numbering, 4 screw, and shipped in '55 or early '56.

Welcome to the forum.

You have a very nice Model of 1953 .32 Hand Ejector built on the New I frame, only built with 4 and later 3 screws. It's the last I frame before discontinued Jan 1961, thereafter only built on the J frame.

Yours is early, still having the old style Improved I frame hammer.

Funny, I just posted about my model 30. They look almost identical. Of course mine only has 3 screws an is model # marked.

With the exception of the number of screws, they look basically the same. I'm thrilled with mine.

Terry, I also have a blued "beater" that look like it spent time in a tackle box. The serial is: 6750XX (about 775 from yours)
And yes, a breathtaking example you have there!
