I was so lucky to be able to buy a 16-4 about 2-3 years ago, most probably never fired after factory testing, with box, documents, .... It came from the previous Belgian S&W importer's private collection, which explains it's splendid condition. I was able to get it for the equivalent of about 900 $, which I considered still a bargain. It's one if my best looking S&W, which explains I couldn't convince myself to shoot it ... so it's one of my nicest safe queens. I do not even consider selling it, unless someone really offers we a very indecent amount of money for it (might start to consider selling from 5.000 $ upwards ;)).

I have another .32 H&R Magnum, a Ruger Single Six Bisley 7", which gets shot regularly, and I like this cartridge and it's lower powered brothers (.32 S&W Long) as perfect range calibres. It costed me about half the price of the 16-4, which explains itself by the fact most people over here do not even know about the existence of .32 H&R Magnum. I would love to add a .327 to the stable, but it's not allowed for import as that calibre is not CIP approved (European equivalent of your SAAMI). So a .32 H&R is best you can have, at the condition you are reloading. I had the buy empty shells, no manufactured ammo available at all.

Fast forward to this morning : I get a call from my favorite GS, and the person tells me he has something for me : a used but not abused 16-4 6", for the equivalent of about 350 $, with a Morini grip (no papers, box or original grip). They are extremely reliable and I have never ever had a melon from them.

It took me about 3/10 of a second to ask him to put the gun aside for me . It seems I finally will be able to shoot a 16-4 in the end ( a lot I hope).

Now I also understand why so many of you have more than one exemplar of a given gun. I am so excited about this, I had to tell you all. I might buy a lottery ticket later today, as it might be my very lucky day right now.

Thanks for sharing my excitement with your comments ... the more the better

They are fantastic shooters. I just snagged one about a month ago after trying to chase it down for over a year. I started shooting mine right away. The kids love shooting it too. It's a soft shooter with downloaded .32 H&R.

S&W Model 16-4s

These revolvers were not popular when first brought to market in the early 1990s. I bought one for sale at a gun show back then for I believe $300. NIB. I shot it quite a bit back then with handloads(32 H&R ammo very hard to find). I eventually retired it until the Federal .327 Magnum arrived. A gunsmith friend and I reamed the chambers to 327 Mag on both the 16-4 and a Ruger Blackhawk. The 327 is more fun(if you like loud booms).

speaking of this i do have a S&W 12-4 i got from my dad as a birthday present, been in a box for years and i haven't had to fire it for a while, only just clean it and add gun oil to avoid rusts...
