Granted, this is not concealed carry, but it's definitely self-defense. I know this doesn't speak very highly for me, but I've watched this video 27 times and each time, I must admit, I can't help but smile.

These thugs justify their actions by claiming that the owner's insurance will take care of it...thereby making it okay somehow.

I LOVE IT!!

Onlooker repeatedly says, "there's nothing you can do about it."

Man, was he wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised if California authorities charge store owner for assault and excessive use of force or some other inappropriate charge. That's their twisted way.

I think they should have made him restock the shelves.

That reminds me of an incident in my patrol district at the time. The manager of one of the Seven-Eleven stores was quite a character, we used to jokingly call her the "Mother Trucker", because she was a mother, and used to be an over-the-road truck driver! Nothing derogatory at all.

Just for background. In Utah at the time there was a curfew on beer sales! Beer could not be sold after 2:00 AM as I recall. (It's only been 33 years since I retired!) They did not lock the coolers, just posted signs at that time!

A man disregarded the signs, he wasn't going to buy any beer anyway, but neither fact stopped him from grabbing a "suitcase" from the cooler and running for the door with it! Well, our "hero" store manager beat him to the door and "wailed" on him severely with a baseball bat that she kept for just these sort of events! The bandit got away, without the beer, and without quite a bit of blood from his head wounds!:D:D:D I seriously doubt he tried that again, at least not at that Seven-Eleven!:):):)

Short incident report to write and lots of laughs for years afterward! There were no repercussions for the manager so far as I ever heard, and she was still the manager for a couple of years more! I wish I remembered her name.

Sure did enjoy the video, brought back some very good memories of my days "On the job".

There was a video a while back of some shop owner going after a thief with a big machete, wailing the heck out of him. Only later in the video do we learn that he was using the back of the blade.

Every ambulance chasing lawyer in Stockton is trying to locate the poor deprived perp. I predict he will show up eventually, sue the store owner and the offending company and get millions. Remember, this act of desperate self preservation by the shop keeper, is most likely illegal in Kalifornia.

Reminds me of the public caning of Michael Fay in Singapore in 1994.

There was no question about whether he deserved the punishment meted out to him.

The only question was, did the person/authorities administering the punishment have the right to do so?

Same thing here. The thief obviously deserved a beating, but will the authorities agree that the clerk who gave it to him was right to do it?

We can only hope....

I watched that video this morning and laughed out loud. But I do expect being California the guy wielding the stick will face charges.
If that were in NYC, he'd probably already been tried, found guilty, and serving a 20 year sentence. Seriously now, when law enforcement is not available or not allowed to do their jobs, citizens will act to protect themselves and their property. This is a very basic and natural instinct.
