This is a very solid and old friend, the kind who made a 30 mile RT drive 2x/week, to take my wife to the grocery store. He just wouldn't hear of her taking a taxi.

First, he inquired about .45acp and I told him I'd give him a box. He said no, he wanted to buy it and wanted 200 rnds. Still, no problem, I have 1k+/- and figured ~$.45/round was reasonable, but have no clue what I paid years ago. The ammo is a white box of 50 230 grn FMJ, manufactured by Federal. FC-435033T16, if that helps.

But, what is throwing me is, he called back a 7.62 NATO rifle. My pre ban 5 line, all GI parts was WAY beyond his budget at close to $2k, then I mentioned the 2 back up rifles, both bolt guns in 7.62 x 51. One is a Israeli Mauser, receiver built in Belgium, bbl like a sewer pipe, but amazingly accurate. The other, a Ishapore Enfield in 7.62. I've never fired it. Both are beaters, the Israeli looks like it went through a war and the Ishy used as a training rifle for really raw recruits. Neither cost over $150 and likely less. I just looked on GB and my jaw dropped at what even the beaters were bringing, $500+to nearly 1k for nice examples.

He wants to do a package deal for a rifle and ammo. The ammo is easy, but no idea where to price the rifles.

I would put the Ishy above the Mauser condition wise, but the Mauser has a big historical significance, since it likely was used in combat.

Any suggestions? I'd prefer just to gift him a rifle and sell him the ammo, but no, he wants to pay for both. From my wife, he has a good idea what my cancer treatment is costing and wants nothing for free.

Thanks!

Unless you really need the money, I would make him a really, really
good deal. Remember the wife and grocery store?

I VERY well remember!

Told him I would gift him a rifle and a couple of battle packs for practice and he got offended. LOL

Money is Ok, with both our SS and the payment system set up with the hospital. The only past due notices were due to the USPS and not lack of funds. No OD's from the bank. We're both pretty low maintence.

I would sell him that ammo at a discount from today's rates and then give him his choice of the rifles for just enough money to be able to say he paid for it (anywhere from %3.00 to $50.00, remember the grocery store trips).👍

With 7.62 going from $ .75 to over $1/rnd, I figure $ .30/rnd is a fairly decent discount. It is all in BP, or, still in the sealed cases, nothing loose.

$60 battle packs, or, $300/case and all from Europe, none from places where you wouldn't drink the water (An old truism from the M14 forum).

I'll add the rifle of his choice and say $350 for the 'package deal'. That should be enough to satisfy him and still be ~$900 under current market.

I would still gift him a rifle (or both), And a case of ammo without a second thought, but, he has his pride and I won't insult it.

Sounds fair to me. You and he need to be comfortable and happy with the deal.
