Sen. Feinstein's Bill, "Stopping the spread of deadly assault weapons"

I made a donation to NRA, wrote letters to my Senators, Representants, Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader. Spreading the voice thru all my friends and gun owners. IMHO this is what all of us should do in this moment, this bill should die ASAP.

No. The NRA is there to negotiate for us.

I take it you are not a member, nor a supporter of NRA.

Well I happen to be a Life Member of the NRA - - - but I also support organizations which take a much stronger stand such a Gun Owners of America. gunowners.org - - - Too many times the NRA has compromised on things that made absolutely no difference in the stated anti crime goals of the antis (such as external cosmetic features on a rifle.) They are the biggest organization out there, and thats why I am a member. But they arent the only game in town; and IMO they arent the best game in town.

I don't think it inevitable at all that anti gun legislation will be passed. Some seem to have fallen over - before the other side has even showed up on the field of battle. The other side has won the psych war over some people. As for what Feinstein has proposed - - - so what ? She has always been a hardcore anti.
All this is an emotional response, and many have seemed to fall for it. The odds of being killed by lightening are greater than being involved in a mass shooting. (And youre much more likely to be hit by lightening and survive. Just look up the stats for the number of people struck and the number killed by lightening each year in the US and around the world. Compare that number to those that are victims of mass attacks. As an everyday comparison, about 115 people are killed every day in the U.S. by auto accidents.)

You can bet that your 'lawmakers' will sell you out in a heartbeat if in their interests. We need to let them know we won't tolerate this. Write to them and let them know that if they cave on anti gun legislation, you will work to get them booted from office in the next election. They lose the cushy job, fat pension & benefits, and the opportunity to make big money doing insider trading. (Though some may sell you out, and then choose not to run again anyway.) Respectfully listen to other people, but then let them know the facts - how this is being hyped out of proportion to any real 'threat'.

Please, always keep in mind the real agenda. . . disarming all American citizens. It is the destruction of the 2nd Amendment. They use the tactics of the Fabian Socialists - - - a gradual and steady attack over time. Slowly turning up the heat till the frog is boiled in the pot. - - - If you speak to many people in Great Britain, they will tell you that they have gun rights. They have the right to own certain kinds of guns, for certain limited purposes, and in certain very limited ways - - - all subject to government registration and approval. They had no one 200 years ago who insisted that the Bill of Rights be amended to the US Constitution. They have no 2nd Amendment, and we may be fooled into tossing ours away too.

Also, remember the vaccine scare a few years back ? They said that we'd all keel over if we didnt take the flu shot. There was talk that people might even be forced to take it, as a matter of national health and 'security'.
All that was a total lie.
And people refused to take the flu shot.
They ended up trying to pawn it off on people overseas, and they didnt want the stuff either. Afterwards most of the shots were just dumped. Another in a long list of frauds.

It'll be up to the American gunowner as to what will come of this.

What next ? If we hear from some politician/bureaucrat that all buildings and people must be registered so that 'the government' may take measures to 'protect us' from lightening strikes in the name of 'national security', will Americans go along with that too ?

We used to be "the land of the free, home of the brave" and people who could think.

The NRA has properly responded to the Senator's bill, characterizing it as a phony bill based entirely on lies. Well done, Wayne.

The notion that the NRA should work behind the scenes with Congress to produce a watered down bill of lies in an effort to appease is something that I would NOT support or fund. The NRA should continue to stand firm and help convince our friends in Congress to do the same.

This, 100%

Exactly. The NRA proposal to put security in schools is the ONLY idea put forth that could have actually stopped the bloodshed at Sandy Hook. NONE of the gun banners ideas would have stopped anything.

The Feinstein Proposal is nothing more than her follow up on the "94 AWB, and as another poster said in another thread, is an "AWB on steroids."

Any of you guys who have not looked at this thing, please start paying attention. In '94 Feinstein famously said, "If we could have gotten 51% I would have said, 'Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them in...every last one of them.'"

Our opponents will not stop at high capacity magazines or EBR's... If you think they will not come after every gun in private hands you are very mistaken. Take them at their word, they have said they will.

I wrote a fine little letter and have been sending it around to some of our elected officials....

Dear XXXXXXXX

Due to recent events in the aftermath of the horrific shooting in Newtown, Ct, I feel I must write to vigorously defend my rights. I am one of tens of millions of law-abiding firearm owners in the United States, and I feel that my rights are now under attack from the media and politicians alike.

The knee-jerk reaction from many has been to call for more gun control. To ban certain types of firearms. This is misguided and dangerous. What the government should be focusing on is how to help families with individuals that have mental heath issues and keeping criminals and repeat offenders off of the street. For every Adam Lanzaa, or Jared Loughner, there are tens of millions of firearm owners who are smart and use firearms in a responsible manner.

The FBI's own crime statistics show that violent crime has been steadily decreasing for the past 40 years and violent gun-related crimes have also been steadily decreasing. More crimes are committed with knives or other means than guns. So do we now also need to ban knives and baseball bats? The 1994 Clinton AWB did little to nothing to curb or stop mass shootings. The Columbine incident is a perfect example. A criminal does not care about laws and where they have a willingness to do harm; they will find a way, be it with a firearm or other means. Indeed, this has been a failure for criminal and mental health systems across the United States.

Senator Dianne Feinstein's newly proposed 2013 AWB is nothing short of an all out attack on liberty, freedom, and our God-given Constitutional rights. If Congress adopts this legislation, the federal government would be specifically targeting millions of law-abiding gun owners who have never broken any laws. This is wrong. As one of those law-abiding gun owners, we would be subjected to erroneous and invasive imperious laws that the criminals of society would simply ignore. Again, this is wrong. It would simply be a very bad piece of legislation that would have legal ramifications for decades.

The state of Connecticut already has a sort of AWB in place, and it did not stop this crime. If you enact another 100 gun laws it will not stop gun crime. Adam Lanzaa tried to purchase a firearm and was turned down. The system did what it was supposed to.

I am a loving husband and father. I am also an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. I am a patriot and I love my country. Senator Feinstein's proposal has nothing to do with a solution to the terrible events in Newtown, or Colorado, or Arizona, and has everything to do with the ultimate attempt by the government to control and subvert the population. We, the voting public and lawful gun owners would see this as Congress neglecting its duty to uphold the Constitution. It would be criminal and I will not comply. I cannot have the luxury of a private security detail to protect myself and my family like so many in government do.

Lastly, it is utterly laughable for the President, Attorney General and anyone in Congress to talk about more gun control, when dubious operations like "Fast & Furious" are perpetrated by the federal government and wind up killing innocent people.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXXXX

In some counties the Sheriffs are deputizing citizens with concealed carry permits so they can volunteer as auxillary deputies to serve in the schools. Such a citizen based defense, focused at the local level sounds like a good idea IMO.

Little to no extra costs and no federal power grab. (Just don't accept any fed money for the program, or theyll dictate to you.)

Excuse me Mrs. Feinstein, I have a question. Which part of your proposed bill would have stopped CT, Columbine or Aurora? While we wait for the final report in CT from what I have read the kid stole the guns from his Mother (broken law) who may/may not have had them stored in a gun safe (broken Law), Murdered his mother (broken law), transported loaded firearms in a vehicle (broken law), broke into a school (broken law), and comitted more murder (more broken laws). So, Mrs. Feinstein could you please point out how any part of your proposed new law would have stopped any recent multiple murder situation. Murder with a registered gun is still murder. Murder with a 10 round clip is still murder. Murder with a bolt action is still murder. Murder with a pump action shotgun is still murder. And, Mrs. Feinstein, we already have laws against murder!

Oh, I'm sorry I sort of forgot that you are a politician so facts don't matter much.

Politicians love to take JUNKETS at taxpayer expense.

Maybe she needs to discuss her views with the Mexican Cartels, FACE TO FACE.

Good points. As I see it, lost in all the emotion is the fact that any legislation will result in new revenue for the federal government, which already is siphoning off too much in taxes, fees, etc. Look for new federal and/or state taxes on all ammunition sales.

Good point.
I'm wondering if they'll come after the ammo next. Either by taxing.or banning Internet sales. This would mean paying incredibly inflated gun shop prices, which would discourage new/casual shooters to our hobby..

It will be interesting to see if this bill, should it actually be introduced, ever makes it out of committee, and whether or not a "sister bill" will be introduced in the House.

Either way, I'll be watching GovTrack very, very closely over the next few months.

I for one have sent letters to Speaker of the House, Senate Majority Leader and my Governor. Everyone needs to make their voices loud. What I dont want to happen are a bunch of people going off on the issue with not intent of actualy doing something. It takes minutes to e mail congress, please write them.

"The ear of the leader must ring with the voices of the people."
Woodrow T. Wilson

I spent 2 hours writing everyone I felt mattered. Never been much of a a politico, but I tell you this blatant attack from Feinstein on the 2nd amendment is disgusting. This has nothing to do with the children we lost in Conn., and has everything to do with a nutjob liberal Idealist, and her first move for a crime free utopia. Germany 1938 all over again ... the sheeple have screwed us by putting, and leaving these people in public office.

If the NRA has correctly interpreted the Senator's bill (I believe they have) then there's more than enough information to start defining the entire gun control movement with TV ad imagery--

Tens of million of law-abiding Americans forced to be fingerprinted with FBI cards and photographed... asking why they are being treated like criminals (criminal thugs laughing in the background). Grandpa being handcuffed and taken into custody for failing to register his M1 (grandma sobbing in the background). ATF agents reading the obituaries to plan their daily gun confiscations (well known anti-gun politicians smiling in the background). --- This is the kind of imagery and message that the American people need to see in order to fully understand the world these gun control zealots want us to live in. No need for hyperbole like 'government jackbooted thugs' or anything like that, just captions with specific language from this particular bill and a cold hard look at what it means while linking the entire gun control movement to the Senator's bill.

Well Just a couple years ago Putin and Chavez got the two AK plants running down in Venezuela and since we can count on Congress to never act on sealing the Boarder as soon as a big ban goes into effect it should be profitable enough so we should be able to get AK's smuggled in the same way drugs, Sex slaves and all asorted nastiness is coming across the boarder! The road to hell is always paved with good intent!

I thought I remembered that Senator Feinstein had a carry permit. A wee bit hypocritical.

"Feinstein is an anti-gun Senator who still somehow found the fortitude to obtain for herself a concealed firearms carry permit, a privilege she wants to deny others. 27 April 1995:

"Less than twenty years ago I was the target of a terrorist group. It was the New World Liberation Front. They blew up power stations and put a bomb at my home when my husband was dying of cancer. And the bomb didn't detonate. [...] I was very lucky. But, I thought of what might have happened. Later the same group shot out all the windows of my home. [...] And, I know the sense of helplessness that people feel. I know the urge to arm yourself because that's what I did. I was trained in firearms. I'd walk to the hospital when my husband was sick. I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me."
Feinstein claims that she has since relinquished both the handgun and the concealed weapons permit "
