Senate does right: NO expanded checks

Four Republicans voted for the measure. Toomey of course, plus John McCain (AZ), Mark Kirk (IL) and Susan Collins (ME).

Collins and Kirk are more or less liberals. McCain ... the man has been rubbing me the wrong way for a while now. He flirted with switching parties when he lost the presidential primaries to GWB way back. He's been shooting at folks like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz. Makes me wonder if he'll do a switch-a-roo for real this time.

The fight is not over folks. The anti gunners will keep on pushing on both the federal AND state level. They've been successful on the state level already in a few states.

I just wrote to Susan Collins our senator from Maine and I told her before hand that if she voted for anything that infringed on the second amendment that I would never vote for her again. Well she voted for this and I reminded her that she has forever lost my vote.

Senate rejects expanded gun background checks

... a small win.

AWB defeated also, tallying the vote right now!

Still reading the votes, but I know the NAY is at least 55, including Toomey, McCain, Landrieu who earlier voted for the Toomey-Manchin amendment, they are still against 2A despite they are against AWB by Feinstein!!!

Looking forward to the price drop of ammo and guns, anyone think Obama might use executive order to ban ammo/gun importation?

40 versus 60, a big defeat for gun grabbers!!!!

This is a new one that we are looking into here in Louisiana.

The first bill generated plenty of heated discussion in the House Criminal Justice Committee. It is a bill that would prohibit federal restrictions on the possession and ownership of semi-automatic guns.

State Representative Jim Morris, R-Oil City, authored the bill. He said it is designed to protect against possible federal legislation that would attempt to change existing rights with regards to semi-automatic firearms.

Let us pray that the Boston terrorists bombs are not in any way connnected to a homegrown "guns right fringe group" or we are in for symbolic posturing and oneupsmanship like we've never seen before.

Just to be clear, Toomey's amendment to S.649 was defeated. The original expanded NICS bill is still alive. We now have to pressure Toomey to NOT support this bill without his amendment. As long as the Republicans threaten to filibuster, it will not pass, since they don't have 60 votes, but if this goes to a straight up and down vote, they only need 51 votes, which they have.

LOL...just watched it. They had it on Cam & Co. and on the local news. The basic tone was....we were all "Bad Americans" for defeating this.

Sadly, both VA Dem's voted for it. They didn't get my vote before, nor will they ever.

Today i again feel proud to be an American. they are making progress in finding the scumbag behind the Bombing and our rights have not been infringed upon. i see my Iowa reps were split which i knew they would be. Thank you Grassley. you will continue to get my vote. Harkin, you will continue to not get my vote and hopefully others in this state will figure it out next election. And with that being said. IM GOIN TO THE RANGE TO CELEBRATE.

The prez said this was round one. Maybe, just maybe they will realize that a firearm is not behind every trajedy that occurs. Wishful thinking anyway.
