Does it seem like O'Reilly has been moving left? That's how it seems to me in the last 2-3 years.
Hmm. I used to think O'Reilly was conservative. After watching him since about 2000, I'd say he's a traditionalist with conservative leanings and follows Catholic/Christian teachings generally. He was a representative voice for conservative views around 9-11-2001 and is consistently sticking to his guns with traditionalism. I think he tries very hard to be wise and share what he feels is wisdom.
I find that sometimes I have become more conservative in some areas and less so in others, which may explain why you feel he has become less conservative. On the other hand, O'Reilly shifts a little, sure, but one of the reasons he remains popular is that his news analysis brings in a minimum of two angles and attempts to be objective.
If you flip over to any of the other news networks you'll not see this diversity. Either the contributors will be entirely liberal, or will be liberals with a token RINO. O'Reilly forces people to take a stand on his program.
To address a previous comment: I think the negative comparisons I've seen between O'Reilly and McCain are a tad unfair. Both are not conservatives, but O'Reilly has a vastly better sense of what Americans feel and McCain, for all his valor and sacrifice (which is worthy of great respect), seems to get off track with his constituency.
McCain loves compromise and doesn't connect because he consistently allies himself with people who do not have his constituency's best interest at heart. He isn't always a RINO, but it's often difficult to tell.
While I don't always agree with his conclusions or politics, O'Reilly wins popular opinion polls (and ratings) because he shoots straight and he makes his guests shoot straight too.
Just my (entirely off topic) 2 cents.
