I see two sets of numbers on the frame and cylinder assembly: The first is N337XX on the gun frame next to Mod. 27-2 and is also on the bottom butt of the blued grip frame; the second is B3311 and G7 by the cylinder ejector rod and on the fame post when the grip is removed. Why two sets of numbers?

N337XX is the serial number. B3311 is the assembly number (this number should also be stamped on the left side of the grip frame). The assembly number is stamped on fitted parts in order to keep them together during the manufacturing process. G7 was stamped by the person who helped assemble the revolver.

Thank you Doc and C. I'm used to the Colt world where there's only one serial #.

Well, there should be only one serial number on a S&W, unless the gun has been altered. But, depending on the age of the gun, it will appear in multiple places.
The other number you asked about, as explained by Doc44, is not a serial number. It is an assembly number, used during fitting before the serial number is stamped on the gun.
