Hello,

Is there an online resource for looking up S&W serial numbers to determine the manufacturing AND shipping date? I googled high and low but could not find it, and unfortunately I do not yet have a copy of the SCSW.

Thanks in advance of your help!

AUTigerBlender,

Thanks for your reply.

I plan to get the SCSW but I am currently traveling so I was hoping to find a temporary alternative. Also, I am thinking of having it accessible when I am shopping at a store or at a show.

Would someone with a SCSW please help me with the dating of Serial Number BRE5xxx? Much appreciated!

Until someone pipes in - I searched the net and found your S/N (BRE) was assigned to a Model 686 produced around 1994.

I am not as computer literate as many are; where did you find the L-frame numbers? Mine is a 686-4, BUF38xx. As long as you're giving out free help...

Download the kindle app to your phone for free and buy the kindle edition book. You will have it available in the phone, computer and any other device that can sync to kindle.

I have the book - but, just downloaded the Kindle application to my PC (they have a PC version). I then purchased ($15.39) the electronic version (Standard Catalog of SW) - wow - it works great and you can search (which is fantastic)! Thanks for the suggestion.

Now if you have a smart phone and/or a tablet and you install the kindle reader you can have the book with you wherever you go.

It even saves and syncs the book so when you open it in any device it will be in the last page you left it. Very cool indeed.

By the way the kindle edition of "Fast and fancy revolver shooting" by Ed McGivern is only about $3 in the kindle shop.
