I would be most grateful if someone could tell me about this MP-15 serial SP56522. I am especially interested in the specific model but year would be nice too. Thanks in advance.

I posted the same question with serial # SP 83XXX. The guidance I was given was to call S&W. I tried to call and they are on vacation until the 2nd. If I get any info I will share it with you. The top gun in the picture is the one in question. The bottom is a 15 -22.

Look at the top of the barrel. Cyphertext just helped me. If it has 1/8 5R on it it is one of the new 15T's.
Navy Chief, Navy Pride.

Maybe, maybe not.... I identified your model by the picture you provided. The lower is the only part that has a serial number, and since the Sport and the new model 15T share the same lower, I can't tell by serial number. Also, the Sport and the new 15T share the same barrel, so can't go by that either...

OP, does your rifle have the quad rail and Magpul flip up sites, like the one Navy Goat has? If it does, and it has a one piece trigger guard that is rounded, it is most likely a new model 15T. If it has a fixed front sight and a standard, round handguard, you have a Sport...of course this is valid only if someone didn't switch uppers.

Without a picture it becomes really difficult to tell seeing as it is easy and used to be cheap to replace the upper receiver to one with a FA and Dustcover

I can't provide a picture right now because the rifle is not currently in my possession. I am picking it up Saturday. Also I had the serial number wrong, it is SP86522. From what I recall from two weeks ago, I believe it is a Maryland compliant rifle. It definitely did not have a flash suppressor and it had a 10 round detachable mag. I will find out soon enough but the fact that I can't remember what model it was really kills me. Must be old timers creeping up.
