Yes, someone can. Those someones are to be found at the S&W Historical Foundation---see their section on this forum.
The help will come in the form of a "Letter of Authenticity". It will give you an overview of the history of the model----and the particulars of your gun---configuration as shipped, when shipped, and to whom shipped.
Given the engraving, AND the serial number (especially the serial number), it's a good bet the gun was shipped to (or for) someone special. All the particulars of the final recipient may or may not be known (reported in the letter), but the least it will give you is a flying start on your hunt.
Good hunting!!

As an aside, I once purchased a gun only because it was in better condition than the one I already had. Then the letter showed up, and all sorts of bells, whistles, and flashing lights started up! It had been given to the individual S&W credits with the development of the 357 Magnum cartridge. The last line of note in the letter was "This is a very important revolver."
That it was---for sure and certain!
As another aside, the Gods and all the stars in the heavens are mostly certainly aligned in your favor. You couldn't have picked a worse section for your thread if you'd tried! It's possible, even likely one of our moderators would have taken notice, and moved it to where you stood a MUCH better chance of getting a worthwhile response. As it is, count your blessings!!
