Thanks, in advance!

Just received a MINT .357. Original wood grips have never even been used! (I'll be fitting Hogues) Beautiful piece. Solid chunk of steel! Anyway,

BHY is not specifically listed in SCSW, but from the other letter prefixes, it translates to the first quarter of 1992.

Oops, I forgot. Welcome to the Forum. Always great to have new members.

I will take the original wood grips off of your hands. Who needs outdated lumber lying around anyway. Congrats on the gun, welcome to the forum and you will learn real quick, without pics, it didnt happen or doesnt exist, soooooo where are the pics of this 686 that may or may not be real?

My own database, independent of SCSW, puts it in March 1992. It shipped in a S&W blue and white one-piece cardboard box. If it's a 4" the product code was 104222, the 6" was 104224. The Target Stocks it came with, in pristine condition, are worth up to $100 all on their own. Do you still have the box? If so, there is likely a date code on the end label. Post a picture of it, along with pics of the revolver.

Excuse me, where are my manners?

Spent a few short hours with the 'Mothers' polish and now she gleams! It came to me as a fairly shiny revolver. Now it's a very shiny revolver!
(photos, of course, don't do justice). I will put a few more hours into it.

Snapped it up for $700 Canadian (probably about $650 USD). No box, though.

I was a cop (near Toronto) in the 80's and used to shoot a S&W .38Spl revolver. When I recently handled one of these it was like holding an old girlfriend (albeit, a more muscular version!)

$100 for the original grips, huh? Hmmm, I'd maybe entertain selling them. They were taken off the gun by the original owner, never used.
I'll think about it.

Anyway, I love it. Can't wait to show her off at the range. Like taking a 'trophy wife' to the reunion! She's a lot prettier than my P226!

Hope these pics turn out

That's dust on the right one. There is NOT ONE SCRATCH on the grips. They are pristine.

You should keep the original grips with the gun , those newer speed loader cut actually sell closer to $50 range,

The dash 3 is my favorite 686 revision as still has the flash chromed hammer trigger and SB but all t he hammer nose bushing stuff is ironed out.
The 686-4 plus would have been my 1st pick with the 7 shot cylinder ,
new rear site and frame thats drilled and tapped for a scope but the hammer trigger change to case colored and RB frame push it down to a close 2nd place although at least it still has grooved tangs ,

The dash 5 is still pre lock but has MIM hammer trigger but thats where the 686 Mountain gun appears and is my favorite barrel style although a RB frame and non grooved tangs.
