SFPD marked S&W sixguns

hi , has anyone seen any San Fransisco [ SFPD ] marked S and W revolvers
other than the model 58 .41 magnums , just curious ??
I have a couple of Hoyt front breaks one for a 4 inch and the
other 6 inch marked for a highway patrolman ??

Yes, their main issue gun for years was the S&W Highway Patrolman (pre-28 and 28) in both 4" and 6" barrels. These were marked SFPD on the left side of the frame under the cylinder or on the backstrap in a much cruder fashion than the Model 58's. The 58's were done by a jeweler. There may have been some 586's issued at some point as well, but I think the vast majority of guys were carrying 28's to the end.

After Officer Jim Guelff was killed back in 1994 the entire department switched to the Beretta 96F and everyone had to carry the same gun. Then they switched to the current Sig 226R 40 S&W in the early 2000's.

SFPD Model 28 Stocks

Just found one for myself. Feels like a real part of history.

Though, one thing I've been wondering, the revolvers which were issued by SFPD, which stocks did they have? The S&W Magna? S&W target? Or Pachmayr?

Mine included Pachmayr stock, though not sure if those are the original as installed by the gun’s officer. Seems a bit fancy for a police department to include on their firearms. The equivalent of SFPD including Hogues on their Sig P226's today.

I do like those ex police department guns I always think to myself man if this gun could talk . But if there was an actual SFPD marked 29 and I could own it I guess I would have to sit and watch all the dirty Harry movies back to back while fondling it lol.

I thought it would be cool to have a SFPD marked 58 until I saw the prices they were getting and bought a plain 58. Some cool guns pictured here.

A short while ago, I bought a M1905 4th change with the 6" bbl. from a dealer in Utah. 98% revolver. Unmarked. Sent for a letter and to my surprise it was sent to a Sacramento dealer, Thompson-Diggs, 7-17-1940, as a one gun shipment to the Sacramento PD. Many PD guns were unmarked and a letter usually does not tell you who the buyer was. Provenance is lost forever. I got lucky on mine and Mr. Jinks must have researched it a bit further. Big Larry

as in "Magnum Force?" I don't believe you.
