Letters from home could be so uplifting!!

A left handed Dear John letter. Like the guy didn't have anything else to worry about. My in-laws got the Red Cross on me because I did not write home enough.

Dear Vicky,
Took a couple rounds in the main rotor blades yesterday during an emergency night extraction. My buddy Jerry lost his tail rotor but his crash wasn't too bad. He and his crew should be out of the hospital soon. Our mess hall was destroyed in a rocket attack so it looks like it's c-rations for a while.

Other than that things are going pretty well. I should be home in 9 months, or sooner in a body bag. Give my love to your mom and dad and thank them for having the Red Cross do their welfare check on me. That really made my day, like I didn't have anything else to do. More later, as we have a big pre-dawn operation on the Cambodian border tomorrow and enemy resistance is expected to be fierce.

Have a nice day and don't worry,
Tom

PS, Here is a picture of Rick and my ship. We were able to get out before it burned up.

Just remembered, there was No mayo over there other than at AF facilities so got wife to send me a jar that was kept in motor Sgt standard fridge. So called loaf bread tasted as it was made from sawdust from a table saw but it was all there was. Somehow our motor Sgt “ acquired” assorted sliced meat and cheese so we had ok sandwiches instead of mess hall slop.

Made me think of those yummy powdered eggs.

Going through this now but its a broken knee cap and MD says there is no fix and he does not operate on such, wear knee brace. VA will be crying again as injury happened in basic in 71.
Little bit of JB weld should take care of it, but you'll have to be still for 24 hours while it sets up. ;)

Cu Chi was home to our Bn. HQ and our sister company. We saw it as a rear area. Much better PX but the chow wasn't much better.
You had a great subway system there. But no subs!!

Have seen this happen. A Lt. had a brother going to college in New England. He told his brother to be on top of his dorm at a certain time. He was and so were his friends. At the appointed time the college kids were looking down into the cockpit of an A6 as it flew by. Some instructor knew what an A6 was and called the Navy to complain. The Navy figured out it was not one of theirs and contacted the Marines. By the time they figured out who it was the bird was in Wright-Patterson in Ohio. They were given a route to fly home and not to deviate from it. When they landed the Squadron CO and the CG were there. By the end of the week the pilot had lost his wings and was heading out the door to civilian life. The B/N was given a $2000 fine and grounded. Fly By.jpeg
