Hey all, new to the S&W family, proud to be here!

I have a Taurus 24/7 Pro .40 and a Blackhawk CQC sherpa holster for it...well today I picked up a M&P 40 and it actually fits in the holster REALLY well.

It's a tiny bit snug in a small area where my taurus is not...My question is, should I buy a new one or can I use this for both?

I've pulled and pulled and it's in there the way it's supposed to be...seems very safe.

If you plan on using it for CCW, I would do a fail test with it. Put the UNLOADED pistol in the holster, strap it on, and try your best to get it to engage or fall out of the holster. If you find that it doesn't bind on the draw no matter how the gun is carried, and that the gun will remain secure no matter how many walls or doors your holstered pistol bangs against, go for it.

I recommend testing it, because I played Serpa mix and match last year using a holster for a gun that isn't supported for a Kydex rig, and wound up dropping a gun in public because it retained well at home only to discover on the street that the gun liked to rock back and forth and slide out of the holster.

There is a different model Serpa holster for the Taurus and the S&W. I would buy the one designed to fit your S&W.

I have to agree. Although at home etc it may fit, the holster is NOT made for that gun. Unless you had a note saying that indeed they are interchangable, I would spend the $40-$60 for complete piece of mind.

I use other holsters that fir well all of the time. I would use it and take the money you would have spent for another holster for more ammo.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm 99% confident it will not fail in public, however...that isn't 100%. I'll drop $30 for 1%...

Thanks again guys.

I could use a Sherpa to carry mine but they might be cost prohibitive... Adoption costs, food, etc...

Isn't the BH Serpa the holster that's been banned by several federal agencies because of the numerous incidents of unintentional discharges? Something about the location of the release (index finger activated) which results in unintentioanl trigger activations upon unholstering. I may be wrong but try to google it.

I don't know about that. When I draw from my Serpa My trigger finger lands squarely on the side of the frame above the trigger.

The release mechanism is above the trigger guard and using a "natural draw" could not possibly leave your finger in the trigger guard it would only leave your finger alongside the frame under the slide and above the trigger guard and in line with the recoil spring assembly!

Not just the Serpa. Any holster using a similar design.
Google Serpa Banned. You will find IDPA clubs, LE agencies, Training centers and Instructors who ban these types of holsters and backup their reasoning. I especially like Kyle Defoor's commentary on the design.
