She's Back, but be careful....

Sure it's legal. I can, for example, ship a firearm to myself anywhere in the USA (well, just about anywhere!). "Care of" someone if necessary. No transfer took place. The c/o person has control of the box, of course -- just like the FedEx or UPS driver does.

Why does everyone want to complicate simple stuff?

Nobody cleans guns at the factory after test firing. For one thing it lets you know it was test fired. I'd be highly suspect if a repaired gun came back clean.

What's wrong with the FedEx delivery to your neighbor again? Adult signature required is the only restriction. And, no, S&W ain't sending out FedEx tracking numbers to anyone.

For folks needing warranty repair use a new communications technique called "e-mail." You'll get a pre-paid shipping label by that same novel means in a couple of days.

Pursuant to BATF regs delivery was illegally made by FedEx. Additionally FedEx violated their own internal policy by delivering to an alternative address without written consent from the addressee.

This issue is different than an owner shipping to him or her self. The weapon had to be logged into S&W's BATF record book and then logged out listing the name and address that it was shipped to. "Care of" shipments are not allowed by BATF unless the owner is having it shipped to an FFL.

Thanks for that info Firearmsunlimited. That only makes sense......

"It says "MP 1522 Rifle Sleeve" right on the box."

Is that how firearms are typically described when shipped from a firearms manufacturer? Sounds like they're describing the case rather than contents?

I have no clue for sure....my only reason for pointing that out is that it tips off someone (in this case....my neighbor) it was a firearm. I think it describes the case though. I think the sleeve is the "box size" they put it in.

The reason I ask is that I was wondering if S&W might be at the root of the problem for shipment description? There have been reports in this Forum of S&W shipping 25rd mags to folks in states where it is illegal to posses them. They seem to run a less than tight ship in regard to return shipping.
