Found this "little" beauty at a LGS. At first glance it appeared to be a Colt 1917. Having little faith that it would be one of the few Colt 1917's ive held that was in good enough condition to use i went ahead and asked to look at it. Popped the cylinder open and thought yeah shes been cut out to 45 Colt. Well, I moved the lanyard ring to the side just to fund out shes a M1909 45 Colt. Yep, a 1909 Army. Wow, so i had to have it. And as luck might have it shes good and tight with the timing being slightly off. Ran a few cowboy loads through it and she shot a little left. Gave the old front sight a whack or two (yeah, i know) and now shes as straight as can be. Shes as big as my X frame and almost as heavy. I sure do like her. Figured id share a photo. She arent no Smith but im sure she will fit right in with the rest of the herd.

The 1909 in .45 Colt is a fine revolver. I came across one a while back and like it a lot. You have a great specimen.

You're right about the huge New Service frame. While it was in production between 1898 and 1940, there was nothing subtle about any Colt model built on it.

I would prefer the 1909 over the 1917, myself. But, alas, I don't have one, so I'll settle for my two 1917s *S & W and Colt). I must admit, I like the S & W best.

Im a huge S&W and Colt fan. I find that S&W revolvers seem to be built better and hold up better. I do prefer my S&W 1917 over my Colt. I like this 1909 as well as my S&W 1917. Probably due to it being chambered in 45 Colt and not the design. Thanks to everyone for their comments.

I had a commercial New Service in .45 Colt, made about 1935. It was a tack driver, still in time, and was beautifully finished and fitted. It was nearly new, too. Must have never been carried.

I understand your enthusiasm. Alas, that cylinder timing will just get worse. It's why I gave up owning Colt DA revolvers.
