So, I picked up a Shield in .40 last week. Opened the box and loved the feel and size of the gun. Machining and fit was perfect. Very handsome gun.

I dry fired it a few times. Trigger break was nice, reset was superb!! Nice loud click on reset with nice feedback through the trigger. But that's where the love started to fade a little. The trigger pull itself was crunchy and gritty. Took the gun apart and gave it a thorough clean and lube..Trigger feel was still crunchy and gritty...uggghh. Not a big problem. I gave it the typical once over and polished the trigger bar where is contacts the striker safety. That is where 90% of the M&P trigger problems stem from. That problem was now solved.

The other issue it had was that the feed ramp of the barrel had been polished at the factory....sounds good right? Wrong, whoever polished the barrel only polished the left side of the ramp!!! The left side of the feed ramp was polished to a mirror finish but the right side of the ramp was untouched. Still completely covered with Melonite!! Who the hell polishes only one side of a feed ramp?? Well, I polished up the entire ramp so that it is all in a mirror finish.

Looks to me like S&W may be pushing to get as many out the door as possible and that not all of the guns leave the assembly line perfectly...

Other than that it seems like a great gun. But S&W needs to watch their QC a bit.
