I ordered the Shield 40 Magguts the first day they became available a few weeks ago. I have tested factory ammo and reloads in a 7 round mag converted to 8 rounds with the magguts. Sorry to say, I have at least 1 failure to feed on every magazine (bullet nose dive and hits the front of the mag). It's not always the same round either, sometimes one of the first few rounds and sometimes the very last round. I sent it back for an exchange and will try it one more time. The quality and fit looks good, but just didn't work. Magguts said they have not heard of anyone else having an issue. Has anyone here tried the Shield 40 Magguts yet?

I have the 9mm and the 380 Mag Guts and they work fine. I did when installing the 380 thw first time had the one clip part the wrong way and it would not feed the round correctly and would jam it up I took it apart and corrected it and it's been fine ever since

I have used MagGuts on my 9mm Shield, and not had 1 failure in close to 500 rounds since. The worst part of the whole process was getting the small metal base plate on without slicing my finger. I see the .40 uses a different type of spring also so my experience may not mean anything :)

I know the 9mm version has been working well. Like you said, the 40 version has a different spring.

You may be the 1st one here to try the Shield40 MagGuts set.
If it's at all like the original Shield9 version (read the entire original MagGuts thread M&P shield owners, check it out ), if it's put together incorrectly, that could cause your problem.

For some users, it required multiple assemblies to get them to work properly.

I'd be worried about the metal follower and the springs seem thin and cheap. Your changing the mag entirely from the way it was designed to work for 1 xtra round. I would rather just reload a new mag if I needed more rounds. But let's be real unless your LE your not gonna need tons of ammo in a self defense situation. But to each their own.

Update. I received the replacement kit from Magguts (I exchanged the original one). I ran 65 rounds through it with no issues. I did have an issue loading the last round a few times. It was like something was bound up. Had to unload the mag and then reload. After several reloads it was fine and easy to get in the extra round. I don't know if I trust the scissors spring they use. I'm sure it's used to save space. One time I pressed down on the rear of the follower and the follower flipped 90 degrees and pointed straight up. The scissors spring shifted causing the follower to flip. Had to take it apart to fix it. Too bad this setup isn't more reliable. I'll test it out some more, but for now it can't be used for carry.

I wondered about that as well. If you read the original thread I posted above, you'll see that I ran a pretty through test of reliable feeding (no binding, etc) and successfully tripping the slide lock lever before I started using it for carry.

Believe it or not, having "1 extra round" was not the reason I went with MagGuts in all my mags. As mentioned in the original thread, the MagGuts set makes loading the Shield mags easier (so I don't NEED an UpLula to squeeze that last round in) and makes the mag easier to insert and lock (so I don't NEED to "slam the mag home" with a lot of force, when the mag is topped off).

Since one would be changing a major part of a self defense 'system', I always recommend that people thoroughly test their modified mags before relying on them for carry purposes.

But... Everyone has their opinions and you're more than welcome to yours. ;)

I had the exact same problem with my 9mm Magguts. I returned all three I had to the company. I was really wanting these to work.

I had good conversations with the company and they did refund my money.

I have heard and read a lot of good things about Magguts.

I would like to try them again and have contacted them again but I still don't have 100% confidence in the product.

I may give them another try but I'm still on the fence.

I have had kits for 2 of my pistols. I have a glock g42, and have 2 maguts, both have been flawless in feeding since day 1. (except that it was hard to load the last round for about 100 or so rounds. More to the point, I also have 2 for my shield 9mm. one for a 7 round flush mag and one for an 8 round. The 7 round (+1) upgrade had the same issue as yours. I looked it up on youtube and it suggested that the spring was in backwards. I reversed it and it has been perfect in almost 1000 rounds now. The one on the 8 round has been perfect since day 1. With both of them, they too were hard to insert the last rounds for about 100 rounds, now they are fine. I am considering putting the regular follower back in the 8 round and getting another 7 round. The reason is imprinting. I want every mag to contain the same number of rounds, that way I wont expect one more round when I shouldn't and will always count on 8. Good luck and good shooting .

Magguts Shield 40

I ordered 2 Mugguts kits for my Shield 40 and had the same problem. At least one jam for each magazine when running Federal White Box Range Target Practice ammo 40 S&W 165 Grain FMJ RTP40165. Like all FMJ 40 target ammo that I've seen, the front of the round is very flat, which I think may have something to do with the rounds jamming with the kit installed. I was able to get my defensive load to run without issue (Hornady Critical Duty 40 S&W 175 Grain Flex Lock), however I won't run anything for self defense that has proven to be that unreliable. I contacted Magguts and shared my experience with them. They did not have any comment on the issue or seam to have any interest in the failure of their product, but they did offer to accept a return of the 2 kits for a refund. I never had the time to do that and it's been to long now so I'm out the $65-$75 that I spent. From what I see here and from other sources it appears appears that the 9mm kits for the Shield work, but the 40 S&W kits do not.

Thank you all for your input. I was thinking of ordering magguts but have been skeptical. I have good reviews and bad and that isnt good when it comes to my EDC.

I have also been skeptical since i figured the original manufacturer would make as many rounds possible to fit in a magazine... Even if that means shipping with a 8 round magazine and selling a 9 for example.
