Shield .45 back at the Mother Ship

In my case, I shot the initial 200 rounds of WWB without issue. Then it's been choking on federal champion and blazer brass. I am not saying the shooter has nothing to do with it, but I think it's a combination of all things being the Shield seems to be built right on the hairy edge of every tolerance. Many instructors will tell you not put your left index finger on the front of the trigger guard. I don't shoot any other gun like that and I won't change for the Shield 45.

Meh, many Shield owners having no problems at all. Just send it in for your refund, no drama required.

Funflyer is right that the shooter can be the actual problem. In my case the Shield 45 was intended to be a carry gun, which, in a defensive scenario could be deployed with a less than optimal stance or one handed. A weapon that was not reliable for me on the range with a deliberate two handed stance could not be counted on in an emergency so we parted ways.

So I finally got a reply from S&W. They said my Shield was not repairable and are replacing it with the same SKU gun. I asked if there were options to get a different gun and was basically told no. When I sent it in I asked for a refund. Seems like they just want to replace with an entirely brand new gun having the same SKU. They will reimburse the FFL transfer fee.

Maybe just pick it up and sell it without firing. Although, once it's transferred to you it's no longer a "new " gun.
Just advertise it as factory fired only. In box with everything factory.
Or.....try it out and see if it convinces you this time. It will be considered used anyways.

You might be able to get a better trade in at the gun store. They know what you've been through and being NIB they could probably get closer to retail. I'd be curious to know what was wrong with the original as it was not repairable.

All that was said was, "I am contacting you in regards to the firearm you sent in to our facility for repair. The evaluation performed by our gunsmiths has determined that your firearm is unrepairable and have deemed this a warranty issue making you eligible for a replacement firearm."

Hi Hunter8282,

I'm curious at to what ended up happening with S&W replacing your gun since I've been fighting the same issue for a long time now.

Thanks.

They did replace it. And then I sold off the replacement. Sticking with 9mm for now.

Thanks. Can't say I blame you. I've been carrying my trusty Ruger LC9 in the meantime while I wait to see where this 45 Shield thing goes.
