Ok short backstory. I own a standard Shield 45 (not MA compliant) that I've had a few years. Recently dept regs for OD carry changed and now I have to have an 8-10 lb trigger pull. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket maker for a heavier (8-10lb) trigger spring for the Shield 45?

I have searched the forum and internet for one, but all I can find is the Apex/etc versions that reduce the pull rather than increase it. I know the MA compliant trigger is terrible, but I'd rather make the mods to a gun I own rather than buy a new MA compliant one.

If nobody has any other ideas I may post in the wanted section if anyone wants to get rid of their terrible MA trigger parts.

Perhaps contact CS and explain to them. Tell them you can have your dept armorer make the changes to see if they will ship the parts to you.

Or post a WTB in the classifieds. I'm sure some folks have replaced their MA springs with standard ones or gone full APEX.

Are you telling us the department does not want you to hit anything you shoot at?

Have your department armorer contact S&W. They'll ship him the spring for free I bet.

Pretty much the feeling most of us have. Training and practice are paramount, but a trigger you can't pull is really really dumb way to limit NDs. At least I can throw the gun at the assailant when the heavy trigger won't pull. What is even more dumb is that once retired there's no trigger weight or other requirements just have to pass LEOSA course.

I am so happy I do not live in the peoples republic of Taxachusettes. I live there several years ago and had my Model 19 and my model 36 (then my only two guns and the ones I used on and off duty and in plain clothes before I retired.) a friend helping me to move noticed my two guns and asked me if they were registered. I said no I dont register my guns and he tells me if the cops catch me I can go to jail. I basically said something to the effect of something I cant write on this forum. I could not wait to get out of that State and its draconian gun laws. I feel for you Brother stay safe out there...and thanks for putting up with all the non sense to keep the streets liveable.

Registration of handguns is generally NOT something that YOU are required to do in MA. What IS important is whether you have an FID (to possess, pretty much only in your home) or a carry permit (to carry, or maybe only to transport).

I have encountered ignorant people in all kinds of places who hear gun and think register and have no bleepin' idea what the law is. Many of them will tell you what the law is and how police will enforce it, while knowing less about police than about gun laws.

In their defense I will say that MA gun laws are not as simple as some, but it still makes sense to read them before thinking that one has any idea what they say.
